Mets are 0-5 vs the Pirates. Mets record against NL playoff teams is not good. Great to beat up on the not so good teams but that haven't shown they can beat the teams they'd have to face in the playoffs.
Gotta give the Pirates credit. They are a really good team. You can tell the Mets just arent quite there yet when it comes to being one of the top teams in the NL. But good thing for us that all goes out the window come playoff time. If we get in we have a good of a shot as anybody. Just sucks we couldnt open this division lead anymore. Nats getting smoked again tonight
We know there are going to be bumps in the road but I think with Harvey, DeGroom and Noah I feel pretty good in a long series. You'd have to imagine in a 5 game series you are getting 2 of them twice. On the bright side they are so far out of the wild card that they won't have to waste one of them in a 1 game playoff.
Yeah its basically division or bust and that works fine for me. I really wouldnt even want to go into Wrigley or PNC for a 1 gamer and then have to put Noah in a position to start a Game 2 on the road if we were somehow able to win a WC game. With his splits he should only pitch home games the rest of the year. Doubt it comes to that though with how well the Pirates and Cubs are playing. Also its crazy that both those teams might have more wins than the NL East winner and the NL West winner. Gonna be close at least. But you're right with our pitchers we have a shot in any series. Some clutch hitting like KC had last postseason and who knows how far we go.
And look how that one postseason run has helped the Royals, they are playing amazing baseball and have done so all year. After years of being a joke they are playing fantastic ball. I even got to wear one of their AL Championship rings here in Taiwan. My buddy is their Asia scout.
I think having one of the best records in MLB and being "very tough to best" kind of runs hand in hand. Bucs are good, just ask Gilmartin. Then again, 'buck$' are good, just ask your girl Hillaryous.
Is it me or is D'arnaud having a little of trouble behind the plate since he has been back? He admitted to some bad calls with Syndergaard and it seems like he's not catching certain balls he should. Clearly not the biggest issue with this team, especially in a day that he hit a home run, but just an observation.
Can Parnell be DFA'd yet? Id rather see Alex Torres back here. His bad play is an epidemic and its contagious
We appear to be very lucky we are in the NL East. We should send the Giants a basket of muffin or something.
http://mlb.com/r/article?ymd=20150816&content_id=143480272&vkey=news_nym&c_id=nym Maybe I'm just nitpicky on TC but I really hate this mindset. Yes a 4.5 game lead right now is amazing. We all would've signed for that at the beginning of the year and considering where we were 3 weeks ago I think it's kind of a shock that we are where we are. With that said I hope this isn't the kinda crap he is preaching in the locker room. Nobody on the team outside of Uribe has been on consistently winning teams. A 4.5 game lead can disappear in a week. Ask the Yankees about that. A sustained lead is great when you're winning but when you have to depend on other teams to beat the only other average team in your division then it's a problem IMO. We missed an opportunity this weekend. Pittsburgh is good but they aren't that much better than us to have swept us twice. The lead could be a 5.5 or 6.5 right now if not for a few bad plays. That's the shit Terry should be talking about.
I don't think the Pirates are that much better than us. It took extra innings twice and then a complete failure from Parnell and a bunch of errors yesterday. The only team that is CLEARLY superior than us or any other team in the NL is the Cardinals. Parnell should never be allowed to pitch again.
Just got a phone update saying Wright will be back in the lineup next Monday when we start a 4 game series in Philly
"Alderson wasn't specific about Montero's setback. Said the pitcher was back to "square one" and he wasn't counting on him returning in '15." This Montero situation is bizarre. The Mets look pretty bad here. Reading between the lines they all but said that the doctors couldn't find anything wrong with him, and they feel like he was lying about his injury. How do you re-hurt an imaginary injury? Is it physical or mental?
I'm not that worried about getting swept by the pirates, and not just because the Nats are in freefall. deGrom and Syndergaard didn't pitch in the series. In the first 2 games it came down to extra innings. In the last game, the bullpen choked it away. It seems the bullpen is our Achilles heel right now, but even still every single game was a close game that was winnable without our primary pitching rotation. The Pirates are a very good team and they just barely edged the Mets. Don't think that a playoff series would end the same way. I'm looking for them to come back with a vengeance against Baltimore. Plus you have to be hyped about David Wright returning. That should give us the much needed hitting to put us over the top, provided the bullpen can get it's shit together. Parnell needs to stop sucking. I haven't been this excited for the Mets this late in the season in what seems like decades. Usually this is about the time you pack it in for the year.
Parnell hits the DL thankfully. Maybe he is hurt but even his best is worse than a lot of other RP's. Verrett called up. At least now when the pen comes in there is no one who is expected to give the game away.
It was getting pretty bad with Parnell. He was becoming toxic with the Met Faithful and was on the borderline of not being redeemable even if he does throw 100mph again in his career. Armando Benitez ring a bell?
