While that is true, it's not in the case of Amaro. He was a major disappointment last season, and has shown me no reason so far this season to think that he's going to be anything other than a bust.
LOL, well good thing the season is still a month away from even starting. Also, he had the best stats of all rookie tight ends last year.

Agree that we are extremely weak at TE. Don't expect much from Amaro and this H back talk. Hate to say it but we'll we scouring the waiver wire for a real TE that can play inline behind cumberland (who barely qualifies as a TE). Amaro is soft, an block, and has horific hands and average at best speed and quickness. It scares me that they have Amaro on the punt team. Relying on him to block and tackle seems foolish to be.
You say that as if it's some sort of accomplishment in what was known to be a weak group of TEs. This is a perfect example of why "stats" are misleading and only part of the picture when it comes to evaluating players. Let's look at last year's rookie TE class, shall we? Austin Sefarian-Jenkins (2nd) played in 9 games, 9 started; 21 receptions for 221 yards (30 yards the longest) and 2 TDs Jace Amaro (2nd) played in 14 games, started 4; 38 receptions for 345 yards (43 the longest) and 2 Tds Troy Niklas (2nd) played in 7 games, started 2; 3 receptions for 38 yards (17 yards the longest) CJ Fiedorowicz (3rd) played in 15 games, started 7; 4 receptions for 28 yards (9 yards the longest) and 1 TD Richard Rodgers (3rd) played in 16 games, started 5; 20 receptions for 225 yards (43 yards the longest) and 2 TDs Crockett Gillmore (3rd) played in 15 games, 1 started; 10 receptions for 121 yards (21 yards the longest) and 1 TD Arthur Lynch (5th) either never got in a game or must have been on IR because he had no stats Ted Bolser (7th) either never got in a game or must have been on IR because he had no stats Rob Blanchflower (7th) either never got in a game or must have been on IR because he had no stats That's not hard when there was only a handful of TEs in the draft class and one of the other "top" TEs from that draft class missed 7 games last season. I'll bet Amaro led the rookie TEs in drops and missed blocks last year too. Sefarian-Jenkins, Niklas and Fiedorowicz were all known to be better blockers entering the draft. It would be one thing if we had been reading a lot of good reports on him out of TC, but I don't recall seeing a single positive report on him. I saw one thing where he said he though that his blocking had improved and the coaches had noticed. His stats actually surprised me a little, but I know he dropped a LOT of passes last season and he has a LOT of work to do on his blocking. I hope he will succeed. We certainly need him too. I just want to see more from him than 6 plays and then get hurt, and I want to hear some positive reports coming out of TC. Idzik's draft record isn't good at all and seems to be getting worse. Maybe that doesn't concern you. Fine. It does me, and I want to see some results and production from this kid. I understand that it was the first game and that the team was probably pretty shell shocked after the week's events. I'm not gonna worry one way or the other, because his play is gonna be what it is gonna be, but I hope to see more from him in coming weeks.

Chan Gailey is a genius at designing an offense. He just needs to design and offense that uses slow, non-blocking TEs that can't catch. Should be easy.
Having Cumberland as your tight end. with Gronkowski in your division. is like showing up at your high school reunion with Rosie O'Donnell and then your best friend walks in with Heidi Klum.
Jace has the tools to be a weapon. It all just really depends on his development. If he can step up TE will be a strength, if he's the same guy from last year this TE group is going to be pretty pathetic.
Amaro will be fine. Chan is using him as more of an H-back than a straight line TE. He is a matchup issue for opposing defenses with his size, quickness and rout running. He wasn't know as a blocker out of college but did set NCAA records for receptions at the TE position. Give the guy some time and hope that he hits the jugges machine hard! The drops are what concerns me about his game. He's gotta stay healthy too, but I'm excited about his potential upside
What makes you think Amaro will be "fine"? The guy can't block worth a damn, has hands of steel and is soft as hell. How is that fine?
Guys with hands of steel don't catch 100 passes at any level. He has concentration issues. Similar to bray .
he makes the difficult catches. Drops the easy ones. Thats not a hands problem. Its a head problem. Regardless of the level of play

I meant for one moment forget the QB issue and lets look at another issue we have. The media focuses on the most obvious weakness and beats it to death, meanwhile, we have other issues not so obvious. Besides, the QB issue is what it is. Only time will tell, hopefully TE position we can find someone who can catch. I think guys like you just interpert things they way you want to so you can sit on your high horse and criticize.
