With the Richardson suspension and ensuing arrest, Wilkerson hamstring tweak and now this, the critics of the Leonard Williams pick should be fading by the day.
I wanted this guy so bad in draft day. I hated the Williams pick. Guess I was wrong all over the place on this one.
I was the opposite, in that I wanted Williams badly at all costs, but I don't think you're at all "wrong" in this scenario. White had an unforeseen injury, so that's just bad luck for your opinion, not an error in judgement. Additionally, when picking that high in the draft you're hoping for a decade of contribution, so the short term (even a lost year in this situation is potentially short-term) has much less relevance to the question of "what was the right pick". The debate is definitely trending positively for the decision our FO made.
Especially considering what the FO must have known but we didn't, that Richardson had 2(?) failed drug tests and was one mistake away from a suspension.
I mean you can't exactly anticipate the guy getting hurt five minutes into camp and being out for the season. Nor can you really anticipate Richardson being a total dope. But yeah the karma seems to be on our side with the Williams pick...provided he doesn't turn out to bust.
holy shit, mike dodged a bullet with williams. imagine the uproar if white was his very first pick and headed to i.r. on top of the whole punch fiasco.
Granted, this doesn't mean Kevin White will be a bust, but at this point in time, that Williams pick is looking better and better.
