Good question. I think it's more than just immaturity, but not sure what else may be involved. My best guess is that it's a sense of entitlement and of thinking he's better than he actually is. Wasn't it last year when he was so awful on the field that he claimed in the media that he thought he was an All Pro level QB or one of the best QBs or something equally absurd? The way athletes (especially QBs) get pampered, coddled, passed along, all their mistakes overlooked, etc., certainly could do a number on a young man's head, and make him not look at things in a "real world" way. I know nothing of his childhood, but maybe he was a spoiled brat at home. He seems to be lacking in humility and true character, but I'm just guessing.
Geno is likely a very nice guy who just stepped into doodoo. It would have been better if he was never pressed into being a starting QB so soon. But it is what is. So far he has shown very little if any leadership and maturity. His brashness rubs many fans the wrong way when it is not backed up. As for (I also know he cussed out a fan but so did his head coach at the time) a rookie can't or shouldn't do that, especially to the home town fans. The HC can even though it is also wrong beside I think is was Rex cussing out dullfin fans and not his home team fans. Geno is working to get a one way ticket out of the Jets. JMO

Personally I haven't listened to the clip, somebody on another message board mentioned it. But I wouldn't put it past Rex.
What you don't read is the "outpouring of support" for Geno Smith from his teammates. At best, its been lukewarm and almost forced by the team. Almost a "if you got nothing good to say, don't say shit" and for the most part, nobody is saying shit. Bowles I think may have gotten the story wrong as he wasn't a witness to the actual punch. Those that were said Geno brought it on himself. Geno talked shit, tried to blowoff a rather muscle bound teammate, and got his jaw broke. Somehow I knew Rex was gonna give IK the cash. You just had to see that one coming too just to rub it in Geno's face. Like DB said, unless Geno comes back doing his best impression of Aaron Rodgers, he's done in that lockerroom and most likely, done here as well. If that's the case, I have a feeling you'll be able to count the guys missing Geno on one hand.
Sadly the one hand might include Marshall cause HE's been the one pumping Geno the most...but of course he's probably known him the least amount of time of anyone.
It does look like he has already lost the locker room and not sure he is going to have that chance to win it back. Maybe the best chance he has of making it in the league is if they can find another team with a young QB that also got off to a bad start and the teams make a straight up swap. I know most will say no one would trade for him but there are other teams who's fan base say the same thing about their QB who did not work out after 2-3 years and maybe could use a change of scenery. Long shot I know but Glennon, Manuel, Davis or some other QB who is likely going to be riding the pine. Would likely have to add something to the deal for Glennon but a 7th and Smith would be worth it I think. Then they have Fitz start while the other two basically audition for next year, unless one steps up quick and takes the QB1 position from Fitz.
I think eventually we are going to hear IK's side of the story. The Jets players are under a gag order but IK and his new Bills teammates aren't. I'm sure he's already told them what happened so it's just a matter of time. _

The Bucs aren't going to give up Glennon at this point. He's on a cheap 3rd round deal with a couple of years left on it and it's nice to have him around to give them another option if they feel like they need to pull Winston for a series, or a quarter or even a start to make a point.

This whole Geno thing disgusts me. You're depending on your team to protect you, but, outside the white lines you don't give a dam about them. Geno is an idiot. If he never throws another pass with the green and white I'd be fine with it.
There are so many trades that have gone through over the years that were much less likely. I also did not confine it to just Glennon so to key on that as if it was the main premise of my post is pretty off the mark. The point was trade him once he is healthy, or before if someone would, for another QB that maybe needs a fresh start also. Exploring that option, if the coaching staff feels he will not be able to lead the Jets, is the better option than just cutting him.
