Solid , solid , solid. Cant say much more about this team these days. I wish the offense was a little better, still lots of chances to get runs gone to waste, but its hard to complain when they are doing enough to win. Something they werent doing pre-deadline.
That has been nice. Were not gonna lose many games if we score 4 runs so that should be the game-by-game benchmark IMO. Hopefully Duda gets back in there tomorrow.
Cespedes was a little cold until he hit that Hr. On offense he's the straw that stirs the drink on this team. Even when he doesn't hit his presence helps the team because they don't want to pitch to him. He seems to be fitting in well with this team and getting along with the guys.
Over .800 winning percentage when we score 4+.. That's just a ridiculous stat. We need Matz to come back soon so we can go back to this 6 man rotation and save some innings on the other arms. If/When we make the playoffs, do you leave Colon as a starter? Go 6 man rotation in the playoffs? PS - The Yankees lost a 7.5 game lead in a shorter time period than when we had that monster collapse.
If we can make the playoffs going all of September with a 6 man rotation it gives Harvey and Noah a nice rest and keeps the innings at a reasonable number. I think it would be tough to give Colon a start in anything other than a spot start while leading a series. But thats getting wayyyy ahead of ourselves. Ive said before that I think giving Niese a playoff start would be a horrible idea but maybe he has turned a corner. I still dont really trust him in a big spot against a good team though. Maybe if a team is lefty heavy it would be alright but I would have a bad feeling about that. Matz is destined for pen work in the playoffs IMO. Which isnt the worst thing either. As for the Yanks its hard to not be a little happy about their mini collapse. To lose that type of lead in like 2 weeks is insane. The good thing for them is the rest of the AL outside of the playoff picture is horrible. Unless Tampa or Baltimore goes on a crazy hot streak they are pretty much a sure thing to atleast make the wildcard game.
If the schedule works out, if you make the playoffs - it will be a 3/4 man rotation , if schedule does not permit 3 man, Niese will be the number 4, otherwise he is first out of pen in long relief. A lot depends on how the series are going, are you up, down or even? No way they would even go with 5 starters in the playoffs.
100%. Long relief for Niese and Colon likely never gets a start. Love to see Matz come out of the pen. And fuck the Yankees. _
It's so weird that we've gone from one of the most inept lineups I can ever remember and a totally loaded lineup nearly top to bottom. I mean, even Tejada is hitting. _
Lagares and Flores have been much better hitters when they're not playing every day. I misjudged the value of getting Uribe and Johnson. Love Conforto's swing. Hope Cuddyer continues to be a bench player.
Uribe has been great. I was listening to the FAN before and someone was comparing his acquisition to the Royals getting Raul Ibanez last year. Not only for his play but just the overall veteran presence in the clubhouse. You can tell all the young guys on the team respect the hell out of him.
They still need Duda to strike out less, hit for average and let the homers come on their own. His back is certainly starting to be a concern since he's a pretty big guy.
I'm not at all comfortable with El Gordo pitching tonite against the Pirates. He hasn't exactly been the pitcher he was earlier in the season and I have a feeling the Pirates will feast on his pitching tonite. I just hope the Mets hit as well as they have been up until now.
Duda out again tonight? How long until we start to get concerned about that? Part of me thinks maybe TC is just making sure he comes back at 100 percent , and because we've been facing a ton of lefty pitchers lately it makes it easier for him to do that. Also not having to put a Mayberry or Campbell in the lineup helps too Im sure. Still I think he needs to be in there tomorrow against a righty.
I'm not worried about Duda. Sounds like he will be alright. Steven Matz isn't so far off and who would have thunk it Wright is just around the corner. Interesting to see how the Wright situation plays out.
Looks like EL Gordo has been touched up already for a longball. That certainly didn't take long. He needs to be relocated to the pen when Matz comes off the DL.
