Percy Harvin decked Golden Tate in the team hotel the freaking night before the Super Bowl for gods sake.

    Are we being this naive?

getting hot under the collar when you are strapped up on the field in your equipment, competing against each other and taking a swing is one thing. Albeit still a dumb, weak minded move...

Clocking your teammate in the face while you are changing in the locker room is very different. Its bush league. Its not an extension of the field and I bet you its very rare that it happens. thats why organizations cut or trade players when it does happen. Because its bush league BS : Percy Harvin, IK Ekem...

Hugh Douglass beat the shit out of TO in the trainers room in Philly.

These are just fights we've heard about.

I'd bet 1000 punches have been thrown in locker rooms.

Yeah , but it's not the first or the last time. That some players have said "they've never seen this before" it doesn't mean they have't seen it--it just means they don't want to talk about it.

IK was wrong. But it's SO much different then the bank or insurance company you work in or the HS or the hospital or the KMart or the Post Office.

reports are coming out that eye witness - read NY Post, NY Daily news - that Smith was taunting IK and IK said to come over and say that, which Smith did and the rest is history....

If the reports are true then he got what he deserved irrespective of your civilized perceptions... he is nothing more then an immature person who has a track record of poor decisions on and off the field.

Aldon Smith rear ended HIS franchise QBs car because Kaep is smashing out Smith's old girlfriend.

Many of these guys are not normal functioning members of society.

Dez needs a 24 hour guard to keep him out of trouble.

A grown man worth MILLIONS needs a 24 hour baby sitter.

Does anyone get that benefit from their employer?

    Guys, really?

come on now, lets not exaggerate to get your point across. 1000s of punches in the locker room? on teammates? hell fuckin no.

also- the Eagles were so disgusted by T.O. starting a fight with Douglas that they suspended their All-Pro, All-World WR for the rest of the season. Said he'd never play a game in an Eagles uniform ever again and they released him as soon as the season ended.

if this kind of shit happened all the time, if it happened 1000s of times, seems like they wouldn't have been so appalled by it. Much like the Jets were with IK

But there was also a report 2 days ago that Geno was sitting peacefully on his locker stool mourning the death of a dear friend and IK flew in from the side and sucker punched him.

What to believe--the reports minutes after the altercation or the details being leaked the last 24 hours?

    Btw, where's the dead guy?

The Smith and Dez Bryant stuff aren't even close to the same situation. Bryant might be a crazy fuck and he's had some disagreements with teammates but if he popped Tony Romo in the face in the locker room this afternoon, he probably would've played his last game as a Dallas Cowboy because teams don't tolerate that. Nor should they

So, high profile players HAVE been involved in locker room brawls.

I thought no one had ever seen that therefore it never happened.

I'd bet the number is closer to 1000 than zero.

I'm not saying it should be tolerated--I was being called naive for thinking that this stuff happens.

    It happens.

A lot more than we ever know.

you aren't really doing your argument a favor. I mean sure there's probably been a handful of incidents as we've pointed out. but they are few and far between and usually end up with organizations completely disgusted by their actions.

Players have had DUIs 1000s of times, teams are upset but they aren't completely appalled. they aren't releasing people right away in most cases. Because it happens 1000s of times.

Why do they react differently when a player punches out a teammate in the locker room?? because it bush league shit and it simply doesn't happen that much

Which part of my argument are you confused with?

I am not defending or excusing what happened.

I just take issue with (i) it being compared to a real world job or rules in the real world (and you haven't done you argument any favor by mentioning the DUIs--on my job I'm gone in 24 hours after a DUI) and (ii) that this stuff doesn't happen because Nick Mangold or whomever says they've never seen it before.

The fact that Todd Bowles- who played 8 seasons in an NFL locker room himself and who has been involved in numerous organizations, good and bad in his 29+ years in NFL locker rooms was visibly upset, said he never seen anything like it, and went on a verbal tirade in the locker room should tell you all you should know about how often this happens and how common such a thing is.

its like the cardinal rule of NFL players. "We all make mistakes, DUIs, drugs, driving 140mph with your 13 year old cousin in the car -come on man! mistakes happen though. but seriously we are teammates -dont fuckin punch out another teammate"

Apparently it turned out that it was Geno's brother who was hospitalized from the motorcycle accident, but he wasn't killed. It's true, during the first few hours of a breaking story speculation is always at it's highest.

I think he may have been exaggerating a tad and referencing the extent of the damage--not that there haven't been fights before in locker rooms--after 80 plus years of football and 10,000 games and a million practices to think that there haven't been a ton of fights is just being naive.

I think what he meant was he'd never seen something like this with such a devastating effect on a team--a starting QB's jaw broken the night before a preseason game--keeping him out maybe 10 weeks. It's craziness.

I can't imagine Todd Bowles never saw a locker room fight before.

I think during his presser he did say this happened numerous times in his career. He wasn't involved in it but he's seen it happen.

Lets give it a rest. Just because the newspapers need to keep the story alive because there is no real news do we? Geno will be back at some point and if he plays well all will be forgiven. If he play poorly the media and some posters can say we told you so.

Exactly my point--folks were lauding Geno for missing the camp because a dear friend had just died. I mean, who could care about a camp after that and what a douche IK was for pressing him on the matter--I mean a DEAR friend had just died.

    It was bullshit.

Now, his brother breaking ribs in an accident is bad, but please lets not hear the dead friend story.

It's like when I tell my boss my grand mother died because I'm golfing, can only use that sob story twice.
