I don't follow the Yankees like most here in this thread, as I am a big Mets fan, but from an outsider, it looks like when Tex and A Roid don't hit homers, they don't score. Just a simple, but obvious observation. Just a little sidenote.. The Yanks 7.5 game lead has evaporated in a shorter time than the Great Mets collapse 5 or 6 years ago
The Yankees? They're back in first place and there's 48 more games to go. The Mets? Their historic collapse concluded their season. Big difference.
Great that Tanaka was able to give the bullpen especially Betances and Miller a day off since the Yankees are only a third of the way through a stretch that has them playing 16 straight days. Beltrán coming through big time once again. Today's starters: Severino v. Hutchinson. Severino (so far, so good) faces his first big test. Yanks could pull off the sweep against RHP Drew Hutchinson who while he has an 11-2 record, he's been carried by the Blue Jay bats, sporting a 5.26 ERA (2-0 with a 4.24 ERA in his last 3 starts). Just a hunch but watch for Brett Gardner (only 2-for-10 in the series thus far) to break out today.
Airhead move. His friend saved his bacon pushing him into the car: http://www.tmz.com/2015/08/17/cc-sabathia-fight-nightclub-toronto-yankees/ Thank goodness Brian Mitchell's injury wasn't worse.
I just saw an article about that and was coming here to post it. I watched the end of the condensed Yankees/Twins games and it showed the Yankees high fiving some weird looking people with pink hats (maybe Special Olympics?), so I searched online and came up with: http://www.citynews.ca/2015/08/17/y...a-involved-in-to-nightclub-brawl-tmz-reports/ "In the video, the man who appears to be Sabathia is pushed into a cab before punches are thrown. One man is seen after the incident holding one of Sabathia’s giant, pink shoes." I guess that's why he got pushed back a day.
Bird's the word. Hope he's not a Kevin Mass/Shane Spencer shooting star - Yanks probably looking at him to replace Mark Teixeira in 2 years.
Texiera and Eovaldi maybe gone for the year, I wonder if Thurman Munson ever played with a bone bruise?
Fortunately we have two great young players to replace them. Obviously Bird isn't as great as Tex offensively or defensively, but he's definitely special. Severino might be our best starting pitcher.
Both have filled in nicely, we are lucky to have them...Tex is a disappointment, grow a pair, always hurt and he's having a monster season too, we're in a pennant race get on the field
