Someone tell Ryan Clark to stfu. He's clearly trying to remain relevant by acting like some sort of authority on this matter when he has absolutely no idea what happened.
$510,000 - $600 $509,400 Between his salary and signing bonus last year he made half a million dollars. Unless he blew everything then $600 should not be a lot of money to him. Not saying he should forget it but if he focused on making the team instead of $600 he had a much better shot of that next $500K and the other $1.3 M still due for 2016 and 2017. Not saying Geno was not a punk for not paying nor that Geno does not shoulder some of the blame but at his age you need to be able to see the big picture. He may get his $600 now but his net for the year is likely going way down.
How many were near it? Only one, from what I can tell, even saw it. Yes, he was a dumb ass in more ways than one but saying "No teammate near the altercation came to Geno's defense" is really a stretch. A quick argument and one punch does not allow much time for someone to intervene. Which comments have you seen that make you think others would have done the same? Below is from one article which was pretty much what I had been reading elsewhere.
Uninformed how? There's literally NOBODY defending Geno, teammates and the coach have gone out of their way to say he bears some responsibility. Clearly IK is a dope that's not even arguable but also clearly Geno deserves some culpability, I don't understand why it has to be all one guy's fault. Yeah IK threw a punch, he's not the only guy in the history of the NFL to punch out his own teammate and Geno's clearly an arrogant jackass that isn't the brightest bulb in the world. Now, usually it happens ON the field and not off but still. Yeah you say the OP has quotes only from IK's side...where are ANYONE'S quotes defending Geno?
Read the thread and the other one they are everywhere with more credibility lol. No ones arguing he isn't due his own criticism but some people are blaming it 100% on Geno and 0 on IK which couldn't be more wrong.
The simple fact that dozens of pro players have said they've never seen a punch thrown in the locker room shows how badly Ik crossed the line.
Geno getting knocked around by a linebacker. Foreshadowing my friends. It's a funny game we call life.
If it's true that Geno didn't call and had to be tracked down and asked where he was, then I totally agree with this and he should have paid Ik back. It goes without saying that he owed his teammate the respect and courtesy of calling and apologizing, and then paying for the ticket.
Mad I understand. I would be mad in a situation like that too. Violent I don't get. If I had been in that situation and been so mad that I thought I had to get some satisfaction or revenge, I would have tried at least to be smarter and more devious about it. I may have resolved to show Geno up or embarrass him in some way, but I certainly wouldn't risk getting arrested for assault or risk my career by punching him out. I would have stopped asking him for the money, and would have acted like everything was cool and I had forgotten about it. I might have made an anonymous quote to one of the beat writers about who Geno really was or something that he did that would have caused him some embarrassment or perhaps gotten him in trouble with the team or law if he did something illegal. If that didn't satisfy me, then in a practice or scrimmage I might have accidentally sacked him a little too hard, not hard enough to seriously injure him, but just enough to shake him up a little. Maybe my knee would have accidentally caught him in the nuts or my hand accidentally slapped him upside the head while trying to block a pass, then I would have apologized and acted concerned. As the old saying goes, "Revenge is a dish best served cold."
Why should Geno be afraid of Ik? They were teammates. QBs are off limits. They wear red jerseys. Geno in a million years probably never thought that Ik would hit him or resort to violence. I would have called, apologized and paid him back immediately, but that's just me. If I hadn't paid him, I probably would have been like Geno, never thinking Ik would actually physically accost me. It's definitely a character flaw in Geno, if true, but imo your point that Geno should have been afraid of Ik is off base. Geno may not have known that Ik had attacked a policeman. From all reports I've seen, he hasn't been in any trouble since. Geno's attitude can at least be partially attributable to the way athletes are treated in our society. They are pampered, coddled, excused, passed along in school, given grades so they can stay eligible, allowed to get away with all kinds of immature, boorish and criminal behavior. They come to expect that after a while. Geno probably thought he could do whatever and as starter he was untouchable. It's definitely not the attitude you want in any of your players, especially your starting QB, but it isn't so surprising. considering how players are treated these days.
You don't know the answer to your question. There could be confrontations like this in every locker room with every QB every day, but you would never hear about it without the punch and the injury.
Yes. It wasn't just putting his finger in the guy's face. He had had arguments about it before, still hadn't paid, and when he stuck his finger in IK's face he said "Well, you're not going to do anything about it." That's daring someone and some immature/insecure young guy could easily throw a punch over it. "This wasn't the first time they had an issue over this same situation, and nothing came from it the first time. You know, the first time they got into an argument, you know, words were said, disrespect thrown both ways, both guys separate and walk away." 2013 - Several league executives alleged Smith did not handle the draft process in a professional manner which caused him to fall out of the first round. During the season before the Bucs game: Smith said he doesn't "think it's necessary" to watch tape on Revis before he goes up against the Buccaneers on Sunday. "I mean, I don't think it's necessary," Smith said. "Maybe I will, maybe I won't. You pretty much get the idea of what kind of player he is based on his reputation." 2014- Fined $12,000 for cursing a fan, later in the season he missed a team meeting to go to the movies. Does this guy sound like Joe Montana or Ryan Leaf? Ron
Maybe you expect to get punched in the face during and argument and based on your comments in these threads, rightfully so. You, sir, are a certified dumbass, low life and cretin. Some of us grow up, develop some class and learn how to settle things intelligently, maturely and with some degree of decorum and class, but not you. Calling people pansies because they don't fight, is totally ridiculous and shows what a clueless cretin you are. You don't belong in civilized society.
If this is what happened, I'm not surprised IK punched Geno. I'm guessing that this probably didn't happen though because Geno would have to be incredibly stupid to mouth off like that to another teammate.
