OK we'll do this again... Here's Mangold: "“I think that’s what’s adding to the craziness and the confusion of all this is that this really seems to have come out of nowhere,” Mangold said. “This is a first for me. I’ve never seen a punch thrown in the locker room. I’ve seen guys scuffle and I’ve seen shoving matches. I’ve seen screaming matches, but never to this extent.”" Here's Bowles: "“He got cold-cocked, sucker punched, whatever you want to call it, in the jaw,” Bowles said." We can do this allllll day. You'll post something, I can find 5 things that debunk it, then you'll laugh at me and post another quote, then I'll go find 5 things.... you get it. I'm done with it. You believe whichever report it is you want to believe. I'll wait for facts.
I don't give a shit if Geno called his mother a whore. One, you don't just sucker punch a guy in the face, and two, you don't punch your starting QB. IK is a fuckin moron. Geno may be to blame for not paying the man or doing whatever he did but you can not blame Geno Smith for getting clocked by a teammate.
What sense does that make? He was smug with a guy who was hassling him, and that's rationale for not wanting the guy on your team? Please. That's just assinine. If Geno jerked Ik around about going to the camp in Texas or acted like a jerk, then yes, he needs to grow up or realize what an ass he was being and how he contributed to the incident, but that's not a reason to kick your starting QB off your team. To succeed in the NFL, the players have to have big egos and a lot of confidence. Many of them are going to act smugly. Just as some of them think they're "invincible", some think that no one would mess with them or punch them. Geno had every right to expect that Ik wouldn't punch him. That's not something that is acceptable on any team, especially with their starting QB. It's not like Geno was acting like a punk in some bar and got in a brawl. If the stories are true about the $600, then aside from the point that $600 is nothing to those guys or what was at stake, Geno was under no obligation to repay Ik. He was doing him a favor by going. His brother was hurt and he had to take him to the hospital. Ik should have understood that and never asked Geno to repay him or expected that he would. What hasn't been stated is whether Geno just didn't show up or if he called or tried to call Ik to let him know that he wouldn't be able to make it and why. If Geno called or tried to call, then Ik had no reason to get angry whatsoever. I could understand disappointed, but not angry. If Geno just didn't show and made no effort to call and let Ik know, then I could understand Ik's being angry about it, and it does show a lack of decency, maturity and leadership on Geno's part, but again, imo it's no reason to kick him off the team. If that was the case, does he deserve to get a lecture from Bowles, Gailey and Dorrell? Yes. Does he deserve to be told that he needs to apologize to the team for the way he handled this incident, will not be guaranteed the starting QB spot when he gets back, and that he's going to have to regain/earn the CS's and team's trust? Yes, undoubtedly, but kicking him off the team is absurd. That's like the Muslims stoning a woman to death for adultery, or killing someone for some minor "sin." Yes, the QB is held to a higher level and needs to be more mature, but we all knew that maturity was part of the problem with Geno. Should the Jets try to find someone better? Undoubtedly, but then they should always be about that in trying to improve their team. Until they find a better QB, however, Geno gives them the best chance to win. He hasn't don't anything to embarass the franchise or give them reason to kick him off the team.
I agree that it's an underrated loss, but with the way he was playing in TC, unless he was just another TC phenom, I think he would have made the team and made a big contribution on D this year as a pass rusher, and he could have been a starter and a star next year. I think the distraction and controversy is going to hurt the team a lot more than people think. Bowles will make all the right moves and do all he can to keep them focused, but knowing human nature, I just don't see things immediately turning around and the team forgetting about this. I think this will effectively crush any playoff hopes this team had for this season. If by some miracle the team still does make the playoffs after what happened with Richardson and now Geno/Ik, he deserves to be the HC of the Decade and be given a life time contract.
I totally disagree. Bowles is a good man and not a liar. You can' t allow that kind of shit to happen.
I think this is absolute BS! Clark is a friend of Ik's. They work out together in the offseason. Bowles said it was a sucker punch and he's not a liar. I trust him more than I ever would that dumbass Clark.
Bowles knows what happened and if Smith never throws another pass for the Jets everybody else will too.
I think it's the opposite, this is going to help the team a lot. The offending player is cut (IKE), and the unproven QB is now out of the lineup. Geno Smith does not carry a lot of respect in that locker room and I promise you there's more than 1 player who's unhappy he had their fate in his hands. At least with Fitz there's going to be a veteran guy who isn't going to do something stupid every 10 plays and crumble under pressure. This is going to greatly stabilize the team and could be the ticket to a wildcard spot
Sorry, I disagree. If money had nothing to do with it, why was there still an issue? Why was he still harassing Geno? Geno owed Ik NOTHING. If it was a matter of being disrespected, then Ik should have just chalked it up to Geno being a jerk and letting it go. He could have tried to reason with Geno, but if Geno continued to be disrespectful, then Ik should have just walked away and had nothing further to do with him. At that point, it should have been clear to Ik that it was just going to lead to a fight, and fighting is stupid. Hitting Geno wasn't going to make Geno respect him or give him the money or whatever. It was just going to get Ik in trouble. Geno didn't have to agree to go make an appearance at some high school football camp. His brother was hurt and he took him to the hospital. Now I will agree that perhaps Geno never wanted to go in the first place and just used his brother's accident as an excuse. If that's the case then he was dead wrong and should have paid Ik back, but when he didn't, Ik should have let it go. It should have never escalated to the point it did. Perhaps we learned some negative things about Geno and his lack of character or leadership, that undermines the progress he was making on the field in TC, but it doesn't exuse Ik in any way whatsoever. The finger in the face has been disputed. Now supposedly Geno was sitting while he was hit. If Ik is that trigger happy and aggressive, then he needs to be in counseling or locked away some where as he's a danger to society.
I think they just worked out a couple times at the same training facility, they're not really friends or even talk to each other. Clark said he talked to multiple guys who saw the incident happen. Bowles wasn't there and what he said is REALLY off from all the reports. He basically said IK walked up to Geno and just straight sucked punched him out of nowhere. Then they asked him again at the presser and he kind of backtracked a little, saying that yeah maybe Geno wasn't innocent, maybe they were arguing and everything, maybe he put his finger in IK's face but that doesn't justify punching him. Ryan Clark also said that IK is not somebody to play with when it comes to money: Clark said Smith put his finger in Enemkpali's face and said, "You're not going to do anything about it.". He said , "I've dealt with IK a lot," Clark said. "This guy is really tight about money. He really is. Where as I've seen other players have this happen and kind of just move on from it, he couldn't. A lot of people are saying you don't punch a guy over that amount of money. It was one of those things that escalated to a point of boiling over before anyone could really get to it," Clark said. "These guys had argued about this before. This wasn't the first time they had an issue of this same situation." Why did it had to get to this point? What's with this constant arguing? Why didn't Geno just pay him the money the first time this was brought up? How many more times were they going to argue about this before Geno would pay him back? It's so silly.
Supposedly, Geno was sitting at his locker, so I don't see how he could have had his finger in Ik's face, but if he did, you have a point about the players in the locker room. If you're right, they share in the blame for this incident and I hope that Bowles reads them the riot act and has them running gassers until they drop. I don't care what kind of jerk Geno may or may not have been or how smug he may or may not have been, he didn't deserve to get sucker punched and get a broken jaw. If that did happen as you imply, then there are major problems with this team and Bowles is going to have his hands full, and probably other players need to go as well. If this is true, then we can forget about the playoffs any time soon, and it may be that Geno for his own benefit as well as that of the team, needs to go elsewhere. I just can't believe the shit that continually happens with this team. It's unreal.
1)We have a different perspective on Geno, I think they both have enough shortcomings that neither would have gotten this team to the playoffs. 2)Excellent point in regards to the backup situation. 3)The potential with Ik might hurt them, but I feel LM will now see more playing time, even if it's just as a situational pass rusher, which will help his development.
He did owe him the money though. He said he would be there, he said he needed IK to pay for the ticket. And then he just didn't show up, didn't even bother letting them know he's not gonna show up. That's messed up. At least pay the man his money back. And maybe I'm being an ass here but honestly, even if this really happened (very inconvenient), your brother falls off his bike and you have to be there with him in the hospital? Really? Come on. How old is his brother? 6?
Because imo, depending upon what really happened regarding that high school camp, Geno may not have owed Ik one red cent and Ik had no reason to expect to be repaid. If you were going out of your way to help someone who wasn't really a friend, and he paid for a ticket for you for something, and you had an emergency come up and were not able to make it, would you pay that person back? I might offer to, or insist he take half the money, but it wasn't Geno's fault his brother was hit and needed to go to the hospital. Geno was doing Ik a favor. Ik should have understood why Geno couldn't make it and not expected Geno to reimburse him for the plane ticket. If he couldn't understand that, then he's too stupid to be in the NFL.
He punched Geno while he was seated? That's fucked up. I can beat up a lot of guys if they stay seated. But no swivel chairs. Always leave on a high note...right, ballhawk?
