Watched NFL Network and they explained in detail what exactly happened and how it got to the point where IK decided to punch Geno in the face.

IK asked (I'd assume) Geno to attend his charity event in the offseason and Geno said he'd be there which is a nice thing to do, so he did IK a favor there. Geno then called IK and basically asked him to pay for the plane ticket & hotel which IK did. I thought this was kind of lame but whatever. Anyway IK paid for it. So the guy at the airport who was sent there by IK to pick up Geno waited for a couple hours until he finally was able to get Geno on the phone, and Geno told him he couldn't show up because his brother fell off his bike and got injured and he had to get him to the Hospital. Whether that's true or not who knows, it might or might not. At the very least you can call them up and say you won't show up. IK said fine, no problem, just pay me back the money when you get to training camp. Over two weeks into training camp however Geno had not paid him anything back which led to them arguing in the locker room, then Geno at one point put his finger in IK's face and now well...dental plan, Geno needs braces. In the words of Todd Bowles, childish immature BS. Geno acted like an asshat the entire time until he got punched.

Also some interesting tweets from Ryan Clark regarding this situation.

There were other guys like Maurice Jones Drew who also explained that there is a difference between somebody throwing the first punch and just sucker punching a guy who normally doesn't pay any attention and gets clocked from the side or something like that, which obviously wasn't the case here. The two were arguing and Geno put his finger in IK's face. At that point you have to assume it will get physical at any point now. Doesn't make it ok to punch Geno, but that certainly wasn't a sucker punch, and Geno is not innocent in this and didn't handle this situation the way a leader should. Very immature by both parties involved.

As far as people who were there not stepping in, the only witness we know of is Revis.

Revis clearly expressed that he felt both individuals shared blame for what went down.

Had Revis tried to break things up and gotten a broken jaw for his effort it would be a far worse outcome.

Mangold, Colon, and, Bowles have all confirmed that they did not witness the incident.

I don't think IK just walked away after one punch, whoever was there present (Revis) probably broke those two up. Who knows how much worse this would have been if the two were all by themselves. People probably didn't expect it to really get out of hand the way it did so they or he stepped in too late, after the first punch was thrown.

That's one sources opinion, here is another from Josina Anderson, who is well-connected to the Jets:

"A source who spoke with Geno Smith told me the Jets quarterback says he approached IK Enemkpali around the start of camp prior to the big incident that occurred Tuesday. The source said Smith did this after sensing a lingering issue between them after he was unable to attend Enemkpali's offseason event, as it felt like the now former Jets linebacker was not speaking to him. The source emphasized, Smith tried to diffuse the situation at that time by offering to pay $600 to Enemkpali that Smith said his former teammate claimed was owed for both a plane ticket and car service.”

I think the thread title meant to say "Breaking down IK's side of what led to fight/punch." You have sources to back his side but fail to post the opposing side.

Maybe because there is no opposing side lol...I mean the organization isn't exactly going out of its way to exonerate Geno, that says something.

    Here's what went down:

Idzik drafted two morons, and their talent paid dividends yesterday in what was the high water mark of both of their careers. Championship!

I am interested in the reasoning that led up to the fight but does the violence factor really surprise people? Look at the Redskins/Texans brawl? We are dealing with people with tremendous ego here. It's a good thing dueling isn't allowed any more.

Bottom line, Geno Smith is NOT a leader. If you aren't able to connect the dots on this one then I don't know what to say. We can dispute facts all day, but it's just reality that the QB of the team does not let this escalate. And for every idiot who will yell at me, "Oh you think he deserved to get punched in the face..." the answer is NO. Nobody, barring very extreme circumstances, deserves to literally get their face rearranged. What I am saying though is, to quote Todd Bowles, "it takes two to tango." I can not wait until this guy is off my team, I can't stand him and this is the final straw. Total BUM, in my humble uninformed opinion.

Even if Smith has his finger in IK's face, if he is not expecting to be in a fight, not expecting to need to defend himself, then it is a sucker punch. It does not need to be from the back or side, you are making assumptions saying Smith knew it was going to get physical. It is too easy to get a punch in if someone is not expecting it.

No absolving Smith of blame but it does sound like a sucker punch to me.

Leadership qualities are not the only thing lacking.

Why didn't Geno simply call and say he could not attend the event, instead of having people trying to find him? He made a commitment and couldn't take one minute to reach out and say he had a personal issue? I actually find that to be a huge flaw in his character.

Like others have said, I will be glad to see this cancer be off the roster after the season.

We are talking about a fight as opposed to a boxing match.

While pushing and shoving may precede the punching I do not think most fights start with someone saying "put up your dukes".

Sucker punch would imply that it came out of nowhere which seems to ignore the fact that the guys were both engaged in a verbal confrontation while standing and looking each other in the eye.

It sounds as if Geno gave Ik the middle finger by leaving him looking like an idiot months ago.

No matter what, if I'm cool with you and we make plans together and you leave me hanging, then when I finally get in contact I get a story, I'm going to be mad.

Can't stand people who don't text back or call then when I bump into them I get a "sooooooo sorry" bullshit.
