Corey Sipkin/New York Daily News Luis Severino will make his MLB debut next week after the Yankees refuse to trade him at the deadline. CHICAGO — Several teams tried to pry Luis Severino away from the Yankees before the trade deadline, but Brian Cashman dug in and held on to his top pitching prospect. Next week, we’ll get to see what all the fuss has been about. Cashman said Friday that Severino’s next start will be with the Yankees, although Joe Girardi and pitching coach Larry Rothschild would have to determine which game he will pitch at the Stadium next week against the Red Sox. “He moved really fast through the system and obviously had a lot of success,” Cashman said of Severino, who is 7-0 with a 1.91 ERA in 11 starts at Triple-A. “We’ll see what the next level is going to be like for him and hopefully he can contribute and add into the cast of characters.” That cast remained the same as Friday’s 4 p.m. non-waiver trade deadline passed without the Yankees pulling a deal despite plenty of chatter and rampant speculation throughout the industry that Cashman was preparing to make a big move. When asked if he had been near the finish line with any teams as the deadline approached, Cashman said, “Not close.” The general manager noted that he predicted this several weeks ago when he said it was more likely that the Yankees wouldn’t pull off a big trade, due to their unwillingness to part with prized prospects Severino, Aaron Judge, Greg Bird and Jorge Mateo. As it turns out, Thursday’s minor trade with Seattle that saw them land Dustin Ackley for two minor-leaguers was the extent of their deals. “Rest assured, there’s a lot of names I talked to with a lot of teams — some that are public, some that aren’t public,” Cashman said. “We could not find a match. In most cases it was involving our opponents trying to peel away the Judges and the Severinos.” _______________________________________________________________ Yanks leave Chicago having won another series. The 'Varsity' from the Bronx hasn't lost a series since June.
Is Severino really going to pitch in the series opener against the Sox? Seems like a lot of pressure, I'd pencil him in for Wednesday or Thursday.
Actually it's the Red Sox who are going with a guy who will be making his major league debut. Yanks are scheduled to start Tanaka. Boston Red Sox @ New York Yankees Tuesday, August 4, 7:05 PM EDT , Yankee Stadium Henry Owens, LHP Owens, Boston's No. 5 prospect, will make his Major League debut under the bright lights of Yankee Stadium. The lefty features a low-90s fastball, a deceptive changeup and a curveball. He logged a 3.16 ERA with Triple-A Pawtucket this season. Masahiro Tanaka, RHP Tanaka's command was erratic, particularly with his trademark splitter, as he permitted four runs and nine hits to the Rangers over six rough innings last time out. He is 2-2 with a 4.70 ERA in four career starts vs. Boston.
Solid start by Severino. Gave up a solo homer but pitched two hit ball and 7k's in 5 innings. Headly's error that scored an unearned run was the difference in the Yanks' loss.
Since the interwebz, and that shitty 'fan base' proved once and for all that they're the worst, I can't get enough of that towns teams losing. It's a beautiful thing seeing the Yanks kick their asses. The Metropolitans have them at the end of the month.... God I hope we fuck them up
I think CC watching young fiery Severino the day before really brought out the old CC in last nights start. He's been criticized the entire season thus far--for good reason--but he's a competitor and wants to win. His strikeout to Ortiz with the bases loaded and reaction afterwards is what I've been waiting to see out of him all year. Big series with the Jays this weekend!
Yep, huge. I think they've won 8 of their last 9 since acquiring Tulowitski and Price.....bunch of thumpers in that offense and a legit stopper in Price.
Ya, it's no surprise that the Jays lead the league in runs scored, but the Yanks are a close second. As for Price, historically the Yankees have hit pretty well against him, I'm just hopeful that our starting pitchers can keep the game close.
Jose Bautista averaged 10 homers over his first 6 seasons before 54 in 2010 (Age 29 season). Edwin Encarnacion had an average of 16 homers over his first 7 seasons before 42 in 2012 (Age 29 season). Players don't just find that type of power when they're almost 30. They didn't show signs of being anything other than JAGs for all of their 20's. They're a bunch of cheating pussies. No shocker they were the ones who went running to sign Melky Cabrera after he was suspended for PEDs and then hit free agency. And their home-road splits aren't indicative of sign stealing at all. I wouldn't be able to stand it if they won this fucking division. I was fine when the O's and Rays won it, but fuck everything about the Blue Jays.
Annnnnd after I posted that we do well against Price we lay a fukking goose egg. I think not making a move for a starter at the trade deadline is really going to come back and bite us in the arse. Fkn Cashman you Bastardo.
