Saving up the best for the last. Loving this, this is what the offenses needed. Finish strong, now they have momentum for the next few sessions. They're clicking. It's 2-1 now. Defense loses competition period. Does push-ups Geno again evades the rush, rolls right and hits Owusu for red zone TD. Geno, beautiful again. Wasn't there initially, tucked it down, ran around outside, located Owusu, fired it to him for TD back of end zone
Bowles presser: - Offense did a good job, blocking, no turnovers, penalties. They knew what they were doing assignmentwise. - Revis will not be shadowing #1's every game, every snap, all year. They'll look at the matchups etc. and see what's best for the defense / team. - Felt the team wore down at the end, have to get in better shape. - Owusu is a steady player, flies under the radar, always in the right place. Made plays today, young guy. - Devin still in Hospital. Too early to tell when he'll be back. Some guys get back sooner, some later. Made mental mistakes in OTA's, studied playbook after that and looked great in camp. - All the guards are in the mix for the starting RG job. Aboushi as well as Ijalana. - Decision on starting lineup / starting QB will be made public after 2nd or 3rd preseason game, that's when you prepare and gameplan for week 1. - Again compares Sheldon situation to Daryl Washington from the Cardinals. This is why you have to make sure everybody is ready to play, you never know what's going to happen. - Will split carries between RB's. Not EVEN but they'll split carries and see who does better. Will keep RB's fresh to make sure they have fresh legs for the full season, doesn't want to ride one guy all the way. That's about it.
Yeah, him and Enunwa and maybe even Graham are really clawing for that final (?) spot at WR. Depending on Devin's health there might be even 2 openings.
Bowles referred to Ijalana as an OG and said he's in the mix for the RG spot? Wow, that's shocking. I've never heard Ijalana referred to as an OG.
Milliner: "I'm doing my maintenance in the training room so I can stay out of the training room." Milliner said he's uncertain what role he might be asked to play in the defense, packages.
Geno Smith on fans chanting his name: "Makes no difference honestly. I've been playing football my whole life. I've seen the ups & downs" Talked to Owusu, said he's seen a huge change from last year's Geno, to this year. More "consistency" & "putting ball where it needs to be" Owusu added Geno's a film rat. Constantly watching tape and looking for ways to get better. Said entire team is "completely behind" Geno GenoSmith7 on the offense's W: "That's always the goal. We've got push-ups at stake and we want to win."
Geno didnt look that bad at all today. Its amazing at the way people slant things. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
To me, this is an ominous sign. It shows that no one thus far has impressed the coaches enough to emerge as a potential starter, so they're reduced to trying guys out of position.
Were the fans at practice taunting Smith by chanting his name? If that's true, that's an awful reflection on Jets fans.
I doubt it's that. I think it's just Todd making sure he doesn't leave any stones unturned. He doesn't know anything about guys like Qvale or Iljana and so on and he's not gonna go by what Rex did last year.
Both. I'm not sure if this makes it better or worse. Geno had a couple of bad throws (especially on two screen passes) when the fans started booing him. Later on when he did better and Fitz fumbled a snap they just chanted "Geno!". Kind of silly.
Have you not watched them play the last few years? Run blocking is decent, but pass protection is absolutely terrible. They've been looking like the RAM's oline from the end of Marc Bulger's career.
I don't get to see them very often down here in NC. The local CBS affiliate always opts for another game when the Jets are scheduled to be shown in this part of the country. I'm not sure why. I have seen enough and read enough to know that they were bad. Still, with Colon, Aboushi, Qvale and I was hoping Dakota Dozier and Harrison, someone would prove to be up to the task at RG. I wasn't really counting on Winters or Brewer, but with them in the mix too, I thought that surely someone would be competent. I guess Idzik was even worse at judging talent than I thought he was (and I already thought he was awful).
