With his 4 game suspension, we will obviously need Leonard Williams to get up to speed quickly since he will have to start during the first 4 games. Given that, would it be better if Richardson sits most of the preseason, with Williams getting all of the 1st team reps? Sheldon is already a Pro Bowler, he doesn't need the practice as much as Williams. As long as he stays in shape, he should be ready to jump right in when he returns from his suspension. Why risk injury with him playing in preseason games, and why take 1st team reps away from Williams, who needs them? Remember Adrian Peterson used to rarely play in the preseason.... Thoughts?
Leonard may be to young/raw to start day 1. Don't know for sure. If we move Coples back inside to take Sheldon's spot, who could play OLB?
He should play the first 3 games and stay in for at least a half. He needs to get in as much as possible before the start of the year. The Jets were in a similar situation when Holmes was suspended in 2010. It worked out for Holmes when he came back that year.
Absolutely. I'd argue that he needs to be playing even more than most other starters, including playing a good chunk of the 4th preseason game. He needs to stay in football shape; we're gonna need him to be playing at a high level the very week he comes back against the Redskins. The only way you stay in football shape is by playing football, no amount of working out or running can replace it. Think 2010 when Holmes was suspended the first quarter of the preseason, he was playing all the way up through the 4th preseason game.
I wouldn't play him much at all early anyway in 1st 3 preseason games. There's no point. Get his replacements ready. To punish him/keep him fresh I'd make him play the whole fucking game in that 4th preseason game against the Eagles. I wouldn't take him out once in that game. He can be on the field with guys busting their ass to try to make the team while the starters are practically grilling hotdogs and drinking beer on the sidelines. That perspective would be good for him as he keeps screwing up he might lose it all, it will motivate him. Plus like I said, playing a whole game would in turn get him ready for the season too.
Given the latest developments, I think Sheldon should be more concerned about what he's facing in court rather than what he's facing on the field assuming he even sees the field again in 2015.
If Sheldon doesn't cool it, the only league he will be able to play in will be the California Penal league with Rick "The Wild Thing" Vaughn......
This is one of those situations where his agents should be in full intervention mode. If they really care about their client they should probably dump him and tell him to go find new representation. That process would let him know exactly what his odds are at this point given his current suspension plus whatever is coming next.
Agreed. ....but what the cluck just happened today?!?! Has this guy lost it, getting in trouble AGAIN on top of his suspension?!?! Could he get suspended for the whole season now?
We have L. Williams. He could play if Jail finds SR. Thank God we have a manager with some uncanny 6th sense
