Roger Goodell upholds Tom Brady’s four-game suspension

In a not-at-all unexpected end (for now) to the #DeflateGate saga, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has upheld his four-game suspension of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady

In the league’s release on the matter, they stated that “important new information disclosed by Brady and his representatives” during his appeal hearing came into play.

“On or shortly before March 6, the day that Tom Brady met with independent investigator Ted Wells and his colleagues, Brady directed that the cell phone he had used for the prior four months be destroyed,” the league statement read. “He did so even though he was aware that the investigators had requested access to text messages and other electronic information that had been stored on that phone. ‎During the four months that the cell phone was in use, Brady had exchanged nearly 10,000 text messages, none of which can now be retrieved from that device. The destruction of the cell phone was not disclosed until June 18, almost four months after the investigators had first sought electronic information from Brady.”

As a result, Goodell did not shorten his initial punishment, which will now certainly be headed to court.

“The commissioner found that Brady’s deliberate destruction of potentially relevant evidence went beyond a mere failure to cooperate in the investigation and supported a finding that he had sought to hide evidence of his own participation in the underlying scheme to alter the footballs.”

    Let the games begin.

According to Bill Polian on NFL Insiders, the NFL does not have power to subpoena.

The NFL does not have that power.

A court could order it if its necessary for evidence in a trial...

This can prove the texting occurred IF only over a cell companies tower...If he did imessage (That's over data) and can't be obtained...Unless Brady was stupid enough to back up his phone to icloud.

Wouldn't Brady have to take the stand. Can't they subpoena him as a witness?

He destroyed the phone once he was informed that it was to be examined?

I love that this is going to court.

It really doesn't matter if he tossed his cell phone in the pool or didn't - The entire argument will be that the NFL has no indication the footballs were deflated in the first place, making the entire rest of the conversation moot. And they don't, which is why there are a ton of articles out there explaining why the NFL can't win in court.

He had 10,000 test messages, how many of those could possibly be related to air pressure of anything? I wouldn't let the NFL look through my cell phone either, even though I also am 100% positive I didn't direct those guys to deflate the footballs.

I'm confident and comfortable that neither one of them will provide a syllable of testimony if the NFLPA seeks court intervention.

It's more probable than not that the average person wouldn't annihilate their personal cell phone unless they're hiding something.

Until the NFL gets the judge to agree the cell phone is a key piece of evidence in this case. Then Br*dy has to deal with the fact he tampered with evidence in what will be at that time a federal case.

Are you kidding? My biggest fear was that he would accept some deal - not that he'd go to court. THIS right here is exactly what I wanted to happen.

It's better than the commish trying to save face, everyone would have questioned that. The courts, now that's a different story :)

I'm glad you are posting this here, because it shows people here that may not post elsewhere the behavior of Pats fans across the internet. You sit there and say things like this, making no mention of the fact that they have this guy McNally on film taking balls into the bathroom. Then he's out on the field trying to enter a ball that was not OK'd by the refs into the game. Who cares about PSI and bullshit like that...in light of the video of the guy? Obviously Goodell doesn't give a shit about your science bullshit. Did it ever occur to you that on a normal day when the officials are not alerted the guy spends 5 minutes in the bathroom, not the minute and a half he spent that day

Then Brady is texting the guy not to worry. The deflator. Why would Brady be texting a guy that is in charge of the officials room or the footballs 6 times after the game? Then he destroys his phone? Pats aren't winning shit in federal court. Your posts are a joke
