I for one am hoping we go back to naming team captains again. Permanent captains, not this weekly bullcrap. I'd say: Nick on offense. Revis on defense and...I don't know about special teams. Sudfeld I guess was our best guy last year along with Bellore. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york-je...owles-considering-a-captain-comeback-for-jets
Harris may be too soft to be a team Captain. I know he 'leads with his play on the field' bullshit but a team Captain should be a vet that is a model player and willing to listen and talk to each player in a teaching/motivational kind of way. Mangold is probably too old to be a true Captain. By that I mean with the bell goes off his running for home and family, probably not chilling with his hommies at strip clubs, and that's kinda when a true Captain steps up and sets limits.
He would be one of my votes on defense. The players themselves preach how much of a vocal leader he is on D. He also leads by example too. I think that's worthy of being captain over Revis, although he's the perfect lead by example guy.
I think Revis for sure, and either Davis or Harris.. I'm good with either one.. Harris might get the nod since he has been here longer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Coaches usually don't consider young players. QB's are the exception because they run the offense. Davis IMO still has Revis, Wilk & Harris ahead of him. Sheldon could have been another guy but that's not happening anytime soon now.
The uproar if/when Bowles names Geno team Captain (which could be viewed as a way for him to perform better and get the team behind him) would be epic.
If I'm Bowles I let the players decide. It's a good locker room with a bunch of good veterans, they'll make the right call after camp or after our final preseason game. Geno should not be an option, at least not this year. If he falls on his face after a few weeks it'll backfire, plus it probably puts more pressure on him.
Got to be somebody out of the spotlight but with a ton of respect. I'd go with Harris on defense and Mangold on offense.
I'd say Revis on defense, and Mangold on offense. They're the team's Hall of Fame caliber players at the moment, and I'd rather err on the side of only giving it to a few guys.
I actually don't want Revis to be captain. Captain qualities in my opinion include: -leadership -knowledge of the playbook -experience & skill -communication -team player Revis has most of those traits, except the last. He has always been more of a "Me" player and not really a team player. He doesn't know the guys there as well as some other players (since he hasn't been around the past couple years) and would be leading from the side of the field (away from the core of the defense) My vote goes to David Harris. He's experienced, skilled, a great leader, teacher, communicates with LBs, D lineman, and safeties, and is a genuine team player. Revis is a better player by far, the I don't think that should make him a better captain. As for offense, I agree. Mangold would be the obvious choice.
This won't happen. Bowles is not stupid. They aren't committed to Geno and he has proved nothing to them yet. I would bet that it automatically goes to Nick Mangold. If by some chance it doesn't, then it could go to D'brickashaw.
