Tulo is 30 and is still owed almost 100 million. When you sign players to these huge multi-year deals teams know they are not going to get their value at the end of the deal. So like in football you try if possible to get rid of the player after getting their best years,. Which is "The Patriots Way." I just don't think the Blue Jays are a smartly run organization. First for taking on Reyes' deal and now an extra 50 mil with Tulo. The Mets were smart not to trade for Tulo. Even though there were rumors of interest and then rumors saying the Mets inquired but the Rockies said they wouldn't trade him. Someone is obviously making these things up. Since the Rockies wanted to get rid of him.

That piece right there could put them over the top.

But, the contract is massive, and long. It's an albatross. Toronto had to give up Reyes and three prospects for him to boot.

Let's hope somehow they get that bat somewhere else

The only reason the Rockies got Reyes in return was to take on his salary. The Jays wouldn't have made this deal without being able to get rid of Reyes. It cost them $50 million the difference in the two contracts. Possibly the Rockies will give up Reyes to the highest bidder: whomever wants to pay the most of his remaining deal which is at minimum $48 million for two more seasons. I don't know if they Mets would accept a bargain basement trade and pay 50% of that. Sounds like they wouldn't.

The @Mets should go get Yasiel Puig. They need that bat. It's worth giving up Matz or Wheeler but not top 3. Heard talk of rep, worth risk.

No way would I give up Matz. I'm not a Puig fan. He seems like a head case. Doesn't seem to fit in LA. Don't think he'd fit in NY. He's a lazy player that would drive people crazy. Info of the Rockies wanting to deal Carlos Gonzalez. I hope they try to get him. I see the risk. Injury history, the ball park he plays in, but I think it's worth it.

I changed my mind on Puig. Even though he's a 5 tool player. I wouldn't give up Matz or Wheeler for him. Even though the Dodgers might want to dump him and need pitching. I'd give them Niese and a lower prospect.

I don't think that is enough of an upgrade for this offense with the cost that a diminishing Reyes, he hasn't been an all star since his last year with us, we need something better than that

Yeah, no thanks Linda. When we were in LA I thought I might consider Niese.....with that contract and his spoiled brat attitude, and our need for a mature pro I changed my mind.
There's a lot of guys I'd prefer, Short term, or long term.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! Thank god we passed. This guy is also saying we absolutely no interest in Reyes.

Who were the Rockies fooling. This was strictly a salary dump. I wouldn't have done it for free.

Sources: Mets will keep looking for possible matches, but it may well be that the heavy lifting -- w/Uribe, Johnson, Clippard -- is over.

I really hope he's wrong. I have to believe he's wrong or that would be incredibly stupid, and very disappointing.

Of course if the Rockies don't really want Reyes and just want to cut some more off their payroll: the Mets can send them Tejada (whose having a good year and has been hitting recently) or even Flores and maybe another B level prospect for Reyes and 24 million. We get back our lead off man and Curtis hits cleanup.

Mejia should never wear a baseball uniform again.

Hopefully he never will. To be popped for a 2nd suspension so soon after being reinstated just shows a total lack of caring for the team. Supposedly him and Familia are really close so its probably best that he stays far far away from him.

How fckn stupid could anybody be? Perhaps this kid thinks the only way to stay in the majors is to augment his talent. There's no way in hell he made a "honest mistake" this time around.

Time for him to walk the plank and leave his Mets uniform on the deck. He's done here in NYC or at least he should be.

Mejia is a special kind of stupid . I don't expect to ever see him again in a Mets uniform.

Well, good timing to acquire Clippard. Maybe Sandy had an advance warning on this. Too bad for the Mets because this guy has talent. I was hoping he'd get back into form and give them the kind of bullpen depth a light offensive team needs.
