We're rich in pitching We're taking on Clippard's contract too....The Coupons gotta be wincing now lol Now let's go pay an OFer!
Yeah he's worth 8.3mil this year so Im guessing we'll be taking on around 3 of that? So not too bad. Gotta think the move back to the NL East will help his numbers too, which arent bad at all but a little worse than he was with Washington. I want to say that this move makes us total buyers and we'll be bringing another bat in but I thought that when we signed Cuddyer and nothing else happened. So we'll see what Sandy has up his sleeve. Supposedly he's been in discussion for a ton of players. So if thats true then there is something to remain hopeful about.
As long as he doesn't get raked over the coals on a trade, I think he's doing something. Sandy does not get leveraged tho. But getting Clippard says they're serious. Cuddyer, who knows? If he ever makes it back he can play 1B against LHP too. The roster goes to 40 in Sep't also. Ideally it's a CF, Gomez. Does Upton play CF? But imo just because they brought up Conforto, and I think he's the future, doesn't mean you don't get a RH bat if you can't get the CF. If Cuddyer was never injured they might not have brought up Conforto at all, and they may have brought him up reluctantly as it is. I don't think they would want to leave it all on his shoulders suddenly if they take this deep into the season. The time is now to make the move. Tho waiver moves are always done too. So that is possible if Conforto falters at all and they haven't done anything
Good point on Cuddy. I forgot he can play 1st. Id imagine if we snagged Upton it would shift Grandy to CF but then that leaves out Lagares. To my knowledge Upton has never played center. I wonder if the Mets would consider shutting Lagares down if we made a trade for an OF. Wouldnt be the worst idea cause its obvious that injury is affecting him. His arm is a shell of what it was.
Meisner was having a good year in high A. But he's another Mets 20 plus ranked prospect. This is what your farm system is for. If you're a contender you use these chips for summer rentals. Good job by Sandy.
Look in the past week for under 6 mil in additional salary and 3 minor league B list prospects the Mets got three good MLB players. And only two games out they are bonafide contenders. You never had to take on a 20 mil per season contract to upgrade over the unsatisfactory roster we had a few days ago. I always felt that for about 10 mil you could retool and with this pitching contend for the playoffs. Because with the worst offense in the NL they are still in it. So with "my" numbers if they have another 4 mil to play with they can buy another bat or 2. If not they've done a real good job in just a few days.
With Tulowitzki going to the Blue Jays and maybe Reyes going to Colorado. Any chance of the Rockies shipping Jose back to us. It would be nice.
I was just thinking the same thing. It would fill a major need for us. Give us Reyes back at the top of the order. Some much needed speed etc. On the flip side he's 32 now and being paid 22 million. Thats insane! Makes me think he wont cost us many , if any , top prospects. He's going somewhere thats for sure.
Yeah, I just like looked up Jose's salary. 22 per for 3 more years. But with a 4 mil buyout in 2018. So basically 48 million left on his deal. That was from his original Marlins deal not sure how much the Jays and now Colorado are picking up. He's not going to be a Met. He's not worth that kind of money.
Maybe if Colorado wants Colon as a buyout/expiring option and possibly Niese and a lower level prospect. We could ditch some expiring salary to them to make the numbers work or atleast make Reyes come cheaper. To me a SS upgrade is a lot more realistic/needed than another OF. So at this point I think it's a possibility.
I'll be the lone person in here to say I don't want Reyes back. The bring Reyes back stuff I've been reading online had a lot more to do with nostalgia than anything else. If your telling it's a package deal and he would come with cargo then alright. Don't think the Rockies would do that. I don't even think the Rockies are trading Reyes.
I don't think Reyes would be a perfect fit for us to be honest, he costs a ton of money, on the wrong side of 30 with the same OBP problems that he had with us with less speed and diminishing upside. We need a middle of the order upgrade right now more than a leadoff guy
Reyes going into the leadoff spot gets Granderson out of it, and into a run-producing spot so maybe some of his solo HR's finally occur with runners on. And he's a better fielding SS than anything we have too. But I'm not getting my hopes up.
Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS 20m20 minutes ago Manhattan, NY mets are said to have no interest in bringing back jose reyes. diminished play & $56M thru '17 makes it a tough sell.
Cargo has been one of the hottest players in the MLB over the past month. Perfect time for Colorado to sell high, but I don't see any sort of package deal with Reyes and Cargo coming to the Mets.. even though I would LOVE IT!
Great line by David Lennon in today's Newsday. He said that the Mets under the Wilpons have "operated like the chop shops beyond Citifield's right field wall." The thing about their current moves this week: it didn't have to be and wasn't expensive. I think like Woody with Revis the Coupons were just tired of being ripped apart by the fans and the press because of their cheapness.
I wouldn't complain seeing Jose Jose back @SS and Leading off...But that ship has sailed most likely. Reyes and Cargo is a blockbuster that's tough to see ever happening. Don't see Sandy mortgaging the future, and giving up what that trade would take, for that. No way
I don't understand at all how and why Tulo is not a Met this morning. I mean I do, obviously the Mets didn't want to take on the salary, which is a damn shame cause Tulo is the one piece that could've made the Mets instant legit contenders.
