So how does your plan prevent the former police officer in florida from having a gun? And how does it prevent the second guy? Since we know it was the failure of the government to keep proper records that allowed him to circumvent existing law, be sure to explain how your magical plan fixes that.
Go ask some police officers what they think about it for yourself. I can tell you that the ones I know agree with the survey.
The retired cop is a problem, but licensing with periodic renewal requirements would be a start. Just because he was a cop at some time should not exempt him from common sense safety regulations. Safeguards exist for removing drivers who can no longer safely operate a car, why shouldn't there be similar requirements for those who cannot safely handle a firearm? Like most, I don't have all the answers but I don't understand why we see nothing about the judge in Georgia who had Houser committed facing charges for not complying with the law.
I know a lot of cops. All believe there are too many guns in circulation. None want a nimrod out there "helping" them.

Full of what? Facts? Opinion? Where are the cops you're talking about who'd like more guns on the street? I'm talking about cops in the NYPD from beat pounders to full Inspectors and on Long Island from recruits to Captains.
Who cares about what you can do with a survey, for both ends of THAT argument...the phrase.."where the sun never shines" comes to mind. What part of 'Shall not be infringed' is unclear??? The rest should be left to Darwin. And there are always more good guys than bad. That's why criminals flourish where gun control is strictest. How about, instead of blaming FREE states, we blame the communist states that don;t allow citizens to be armed. (ahem..New York)
A car is not a right. Self defense is. Do you not understand the difference? The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Period. If you don't like the Constitution, amend it.

Well Regulated? None of that is unclear. Most fourth grade students can diagram a sentence, and doing so would tell you that the phrase is part 0f a subordinate clause which conveys no meaning to the sentence, which is actually conveyed by the independent clause in the Second Amendment. "the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"
