population of deer and vermin is already out of control. I'm a hunter myself so I was in no way saying that to take away from your point, but i guess to add to it
Wow, a government agency pandering to a special interest group to insure its survival funding. Knock me over with a feather. Not that I believe anything the government says mind you. JetBlue has the perfect free market solution.
The law shielding gun manufacturers has no logical merit. Product manufacturers in other industries are all required to assume the costs of government dictated safety policies. Industries like apparel and food are required to test their raw goods and keep their facilities clean. That cost is assumed by the manufacturers. The government has dictated that registering gun ownership is a safety measure for the product but doesn't require the manufacturer to assume it, therefore eliminating a private business from responsibility if it isn't followed. It's a deliberate action to insulate gun manufacturers from responsibility that the government requires other industries to assume. There is no logical reason not to make it the responsibility of the manyfacturers.
It has the same hole that allowed this shooting to occur which is an incompetent government agent. How can a manufacturer lookup information that hasn't been documented?
A manufacturer can be properly incentivized to prevent dangerous instrumentalities of all kinds from getting to places where they are likely to do significant damage. Every blender manufacturer since the dawn of the industrial revolution understands this. Risk analysis is something private industries learn to get very good at. On the other hand, you can place all your faith in the government to make sure nitwits with no business wielding nailclippers can get their hands on guns. I don't think you'd like that setup. For example, when I am in charge of who gets guns, I will immediately eliminate bitter disaffected paranoid racists. And I will pay attention to an applicant's social media posting history. That's going to work out just swell.
So you've succeeded at something for once in your life. Good for you. There's a special Olympics ribbon with your name on it.
feel free to use a blender if you ever need to defend yourself and your family from evil. I suggest that you carry one with you at all times so you're prepared.
I heard an interview on CNN today with Mark Kelly, Gabby Gifford's husband. He's an ex-astronaut and Navy pilot who had combat duty. And even though his wife was shot not an over-the-top gun opponent. He's for tightening rules and regulations and getting fed-state-local authorities to work together. What he said on carrying in public places like movie theaters I agree with. Even with the best of intentions people with loaded guns in a crowded place like a movie theater can do more harm than good. They aren't trained and even cops in these kind of chaotic situations make mistakes. Hey what if you're in the movies and some little ass wipe tosses out a firecracker thinking it's funny. Or maybe on the street a car backfires. And people untrained think it's a shooting could start firing. Thanks but no thanks. We don't need wannabe cops trying to enforce the law.
I am quite happy with the safety of myself and my family thanks. Added bonus, we have healthy fruit smoothies every morning.
That the sportsmen industry should not be inadvertently eliminated by legislation that makes guns and ammo to expensive for the common citizen
Gun manufacturers are required to test their products for safety and keep their facilities clean too, the cost is assumed by them as well. You said yourself in these instances the guns are doing what they are properly designed to do. How does that compare to your point about other product manufacturers? Industries like apparel and food are required to test their goods and keep their facilities clean to ensure their products don't malfunction and cause harm. They aren't held accountable for how people use them... otherwise the family of every fatass who dies could sue the twinkie company. They can only sue the twinkie company if they are selling twinkies with listeria, against public knowledge, not if they are selling their product within regulation and people just used them wrong. If these guns were exploding in peoples hands unwittingly and killing people because of manufacturers error, I would understand your argument. But as is, I don't.
Different industries have different requirements. Part of the safety of guns is their distribution, not just their manufacturing. And gun manufacturers are not responsible for the safe distribution of their products and record keeping.
