Yeah I remember that. I said Bryan Cox because he broke his leg and tryed to still go back in the game.
Thought the same thing.... Toon get's an honorable mention, no doubt. I've always felt that way about Al Toon
It's hard to say, since we weren't there, didn't see the pain they went through just to suit up, what their injuries were like week-to-week, etc., but I'd have to go with Namath. His knees were almost shot from the beginning of his NFL career, and it wasn't long before he had surgeries on both knees. Even though he was rarely sacked, he took some big hits, and had to have had a lot of knee pain. That he was as mobile as he was, was almost a miracle and also a testament to his toughness. I'd say that Klecko, Chrebet and Toon were not far behind.
Joe Klecko was one tough SOB back in the day; my dad while he wasn't a Jets fan, saw Klecko tear his patella tendon early in the year only to come back for the playoffs. That's insane. Like crazy insane.
Most are going to have to Google this guy. In one of those miserable seventies seasons instead of introducing the starting offense or defense before the game, special teams were introduced at the last game of the season and Piccone got a standing ovation (maybe they all did, don't remember, but Piccone was the fave.) Honorable mention to Mike Battle for a single runback against the Giants at the Yale Bowl preseason...and because he ate glass.
How about when Davidson broke his jaw & the next play he thru a TD pass? He was in pain from the get go & finally had 2 knee replacement operations. Oh & BTW I saw every game JWN played as a NYJs
I had forgotten about that Champ. Thanks for reminding me. Unfortunately, I never got to see him play live. I grew up in NC and saw him play on TV many times thanks to NBC televising the AFL games.
C Hack posters goes wuth who they C so U should amend ur thread to maybe do it by 10 year stretches which should give U a idea of how many posters there are from the 60s
lol champ always quotes himself. I think it's pretty obvious w/ the lack of medical advances and the way they played the game in the past - that the players from the older eras are prob more tougher. I mean how many QBs today could work out in other eras? Especially the 60s? I don't think Brady would survive in the 60s. Andrew Luck could play in any era, same with Favre.
