Nice to have a few MLB bats on the roster. Uribe is a mature guy who knows what he's doing. And well respected in the lockerroom. This could jump start this team and only 2 games out. The Mets have 8 more games with the Nats. It's do-able!
Let's hope Flores continues to sit after that horrid strikeout and Uribe gets to play after that awesome double
d'Arnaud is due back at any moment and it seems that Duda may be coming out of his funk, Grandy seems to be more consistent over the last month, the additions of Uribe, Johnson and Conforto? I'm actually feeling pretty good about where we are right now. _
Cincy's selling and the piece I would like to acquire is Marlon Byrd. It shouldn't be overly expensive. You get rid of Campbell. As for the Tulo talk. I never believed it. Maybe the Mets actually talked with Colorado and mentioned his name (without any intention of trading for him) so they could tell the fans they are in the market for a premium player. But they would never trade for him unless the Rockies ate a substantial percentage of that contract. To me if you're going for a premier player the guy I'd try to get is Todd Frazier. He's due 8.2 next year which is the final year of his contract. He is playing 3rd base but has played in the outfield, too. I'd give them Conforto and a pitching prospect (not top of the line) for him.
Sounds like Sandy isn't done yet either. As always it depends on the market, and what goes on behind closed doors. Which is always the case and what Sandy has been saying all along. So no guarantees. But it's definitely possible that something else could happen. The top four pitchers, Conforto and Rosario, are 'untouchable'...in theory I've felt good for a while now, and really have been enjoying this...future's bright
I like Conforto. He's going to be a good hitter. He might already be a good hitter. It'll be very interesting to see how he does right now in MLB. But if I had a chance at Todd Frazier who has proven he can hit with power in the big leagues. And he's a local guy. I'd include Conforto in a deal for him. Maybe Montero and Conforto for Frazier (if they can get Frazier to sign a longer term deal).
You'd be trading your future LF for your now 3B. For big money. Frazier's a prize, but now you have to get a LF and figure what to do with all your current 3rd Baseman. They also have prospects @3rd. I'd love Frazier to take over 3B. Not sure if it all fits tho. I'm trading somebody else for Frazier Imo, Conforto's a lock @LF. Great hitters make the pitcher throw strikes, they're very selective and know the strike zone. They don't swing at balls. It appears he has 'it'. If Conforto shows that moving forward he'll be .300 hitter. Like Keith said, "there's your #3 hitter"
if the tigers make the decision to become sellers opposed to buyers at the trade deadline i would like to make a move for cespedes.. depending on what he would cost. I think he has a few years left on his deal so it wouldnt be a half year rental.
Considering how long they'll have control over Conforto's $$, I'm not trading him for a big money player--that'll just impact what Sandy can do with the rest of the roster. I think Conforto is a guy you build around. He and the 4 pitchers are untouchable IMHO. _
Conforto is an unproven commodity. Plus he doesn't have the HR power of Frazier who is a proven MLB All Star. And he can play the outfield as well as 1B and 3B. If it would take Conforto to get Frazier (and the Mets could sign him to a long term deal) I'd do it. But I couldn't imagine Cincy agreeing to that. It's just speculation on my part, I know it's not going to happen. As for loyalty to players in our org. Conforto has only been with the Mets one year. And Frazier is from NJ. Conforto is from Wash. state, I'd also be interested in Cespedes as a summer rental.
I could not give a half baked crap where either Frazier or Conforto were born or raised. Conforto was drafted by the Mets. Frazier was not. I live in NJ and I had no idea he was from there and I don't care that he's from there. Just like I don't care that Mo Wilkerson is from NJ. Spending the money on Frazier--in a vacuum--would be great. Spending money on Frazier knowing what restrictions the Wilpons have put on the payroll means he'd better be great AND you're not getting anything else. And if he sucks? Jayson Bay was also a proven HR hitting MLB all star. _
There is no fight from me on this. I like Conforto. But if I had a choice of players I take Frazier for now and the future. But not if he won't sign a new contract. Sandy says he might be after a bigger piece, to me Frazier is one of the best out there. And the Reds are sellers.
I'd take Frazier too--but it's not happening in a vacuum. If we were paying him huge money--that's all we're getting--especially with the Wilpon's owing the Madoff trustee $30 million in each of the next 2 years. If we had a reasonable owner who spent money--without a doubt. _
Yep. Looking at the whole picture I'm not trading Conforto in a Todd Frazier trade. You don't rearrange your plans, your blueprint, and your roster, for a trade for one guy.... And then back track to fill the gaps. It's gotta fit. That's what they're doing. I'll take Frazier tho. Maybe Wheeler and a prospect...something like that. Once you do that now what do you do with Wright, Murphy, maybe Flores... ? Not really seeing Frazier comin' our way
I rearrange my plans to win now. That's what it's all about esp when you're only 2 games out and have 8 games left with the 1st place team. That doesn't mean you give away your best prospects for short term. But they're not untradeable. Stokes made a great point about Bay. It made me think. He was a very good player until he came here. It's an enigma why he failed so badly. Sure it could happen again. Esp playing in the NYC market. Still love to get back Marlon Byrd. For a couple of 20th ranked org prospects like the trade with the Braves. We have plenty of these guys. And we just drafted new guys to replace them.
Even when we dip our toe in the water for a bat it never seems to work out. Cuddyear has been an unmitigated fail for us this year. _
If they ever traded their top prospects a contingency has to be included to cover the roles those players have in the future of the team. Disrupting that for a move that may or may not work right now is not likely. If they trade Conforto or Rosario, or even one of the top 4 pitchers, it would have to be a blockbuster trade or I don't see them doing it. So yeah, there's prolly never an untouchable, but I'm taking their word on it unless they pull a blockbuster. I bet there's more to come tho
