Close to a deal for Uribe and Kelly Johnson...nothing special but atleast 2 professional hitters. Ive always like Johnson. Guy can rake and can play a wide array of positions. Much better than Zobrist IMO.
You don't have to draft all of your players. There's something called trades. It's what teams do before the trade deadline to improve their team if they're still in contention. There's sellers and buyers. There are bats better than the smucks we've got available for a price. Ps just heard we might make a trade with the Braves for Uribe and Kelly Johnson. These guys aren't great but an improvement. They are both MLB bats.
If there is a deal with the Braves it's rumored to be for 2 minor league pitchers including John Gant who's at Binghamton. On one site he's ranked as the Mets 22nd rated prospect.
Yeah, not bad. I like him too. Uribe too, good pick up. Whalen is rated higher than Gant in places. They're rich in pitching tho... Fwiw, David Wright is gonna start 'baseball activities'...maybe he'll get back after all. All decent news in light of Niese getting shallacked
I just looked at the Braves starting lineup tonight vs STL. Both Johnson and Uribe aren't in it. Not sure if they're on the bench in uniform. Both guys are summer rentals their contracts expire after 2015. If it goes through I love it that they're getting 2 bats. The pitchers they gave up are expendable. They just drafted a bunch of new guys in June. Can't believe the Mets can't hit this guy. As usual they can't score the first half of a game. But this deal hopefully will kick start the offense.
Yeah, even with these recent bad losses there's still enough games left to sort out players' roles and put something together...and at least keep it interesting
I get not being able to hit Kershaw..but Ian Thomas?!?! Fuckin really? I've seen beyond enough of Tejada. Hopefully the trade puts Uribe as our full time SS (thats some wish, eh?)
Sadly enough Tejada just had a 10 game hiting streak and added 2 more hits tonight. There's no reason to like him but he's sure hitting more than Flores and Lagares. The way I see this shaking out is putting Uribe at 3rd and moving Murphy back to 2nd. Flores will go back to the minors because he hasn't been hitting and can't play shortstop as we've seen he's too slow for the position. The infield will comprise of Uribe, Tejada, Murph, and Duda
Flores has to stay. He's proven he's a legit MLB bat but he's not getting 20 hrs like many of us thought earlier in the season. He can be a utility player and maybe in the future play a little outfield, too. There's plenty of below average players defensive players in MLB. You get rid of guys like Mayberry and Muno are are hitting in the .160s and keep guys like Flores who can get hits. The guy I'm most concerned about is Duda. He got a bloop double today but he's one of the key reasons this team is losing and 2-6 since the All Star break. You see what happens when you get bad pitching. Kelly Johnson can play 1st and I'd give Duda a seat. There isn't much time to get this together. Just play guys who can get base hits and drive in runs. Uribe has hit .285 with the Braves and Kelly Johnson has 9 Hrs. I read one article from Atlanta that said the offensively challenged Braves were trading two of their best hitters.
If thats the way the team is going to handle Flores Id rather him be part of a trade package. He's just another part of our offense that has zero protection in the lineup. Guys like him, Murph and Duda area fine hitters but they shouldn't be counted on to be focal points of a lineup. Wright and d'Arnaud being out for so long really screwed us.
Yeah it did. The stronger the lineup the better everyone is. Duda is getting himself out. He's a sucker for the low breaking ball off speed pitch. Just about every time he strikes out it's a ball. The young hitters are being pitched to and without Wright in the lineup there's nobody to cover it and the young guys. They're all pressing, and it's child's play to a guy like Yadier Molina. Tejada is actually playing well. When they were playing better it was the infield D that had something to do with it, and that was Tejada back to SS and Flores back to 2B. Murphy goin' back to second and Flores at SS is scary. It's awful D. Murphy's been bad himself across the board. He hits, that's it. He can't play D, and he's got no instincts in the field or on the base paths. If they keep him as a bench guy next year I'll live with that. But I'm gonna be glad when he's gone I'm looking for mix and matching and platooning with everybody except Grandy. Hopefully there's time to hold the fort, and maybe get another trade, and also get d'A and Wright back
Mets won't meet the Padres asking price for Justin Upton, which is one -two top tier prospects. SD probably wants Conforto. For Upton? I would do it. Now it's on Sandy to be willing to part with one of his own in order to make this an actual major league lineup. I doubt the Wilpons care what prospects come and go
That seems a bit high for Upton..mostly considering he's gonna break the bank this offseason and it wont be in SD. So if he gets traded he'll either be a rental for a contender or traded to a team like us which will have the intention to resign him. So to me that doesnt warrant giving up a top prospect..especially not two. If they can get that somewhere else than more power to em. But Im not ready to give up our top hitting prospect plus another top pitcher most likely , for a guy that is going to cost an arm and a leg contract wise.
This time Sandy's right on not giving up prime prospects for Upton. He's a summer rental because his contract (which is around 15 mil) is only thru 2015. He's a UFA next season. You don't give up Conforto unless you have him signed to a new deal. He made a good trade with the Braves and even got back some money. And sliced off two of the .170 "hitters" from the roster. Something that should never had gone on so long almost into August. It might be too late but very happy he didn't wait till the 31st. Like to see them make a similar deal with another team unless they can get something for Niese. Like Castro.
Word is they made a "push" for Tulo..kinda tired of hearing about this guy. He's not that young anymore and it would be a more expensive version of Cuddyer for us.
Agree on Upton, I'm glad they would'nt trade Conforto for him. And another prospect to boot? No thanks I'm not buying the Tulo talk. And I'd prefer a younger guy too moving forward But, maybe the Coupons are opening their wallets a little for Sandy, and if they take on some money maybe they don't have to give up too much youth....
Sandy is talking about making a bigger deal before the 31st. In that case the Coupons would have to be on board. But for the smaller deals like yesterday's trade where the Mets picked up only about 2 mil plus in salary and for 2 players. I doubt Sandy couldn't make that deal earlier. The Mets payroll of over 101 mil is ranked 21st in MLB. Good enough to have a better balanced roster and not have the worst ranked offense in the NL. Just terrible roster building and no ability for the org to cover key injuries.
