I'm pretty upset with myself for not betting the under on these games for weeks now. There is no offense
The continuing support of the MLB Commish for the Wilpons is a big problem. Here is what Manfred said yesterday supporting them even though the facts show the Mets have one of the lowest payrolls in MLB http://nypost.com/2015/07/23/rob-manfred-another-commish-refusing-to-doubt-mets-finances/. BTW the Pirates got Aramis Ramirez yesterday for a minor league pitcher (Yhonathan Barrios) who was ranked the Pirates 30th best prospect. He's a former infielder who can throw 100 mph but isn't ready. Ramirez who is known to be a good second half player has improved in recent weeks and is at .247, 11 hrs and 42 rbis. He has hit .444 the last seven days and for the month of July .352. He was due $5.2 mil for the rest of the season. The Pirates are picking up $3 million of that. Their 3rd baseman Josh Harrison was injured so they went out and got someone. If you're looking for some action by our GM don't hold your breath btw. Here are a few quotes from him in today's Newsday: "We're cognizant of our strengths and our weaknesses," Alderson said. "We are looking hard to try to improve on those weaknesses . . . But we're realistic, too." also The scary part for fans is Alderson's response to a question about if he would consider the trade-deadline period a failure if the Mets didn't make a deal. "Not as long as we've worked as hard as I think we need to and have worked the process as hard as we possibly can," he said.
Looks like it...Cuddyer to the DL..... Enjoy the game. But really this whole thing is about next year, IMO, unless something crazy happens soon. We're just not quite good enough and the injuries killed them And Sandy's gonna stand there and take on the chin. BUT...Next year it's on... I'm not gonna cry about it...There's no cryin' baseball...
I don't look at it as building for next year. Not when you were just two games out a few days ago. When you have this kind of pitching and in the hunt and playing the first place team 8 more times this season there is no excuse for giving up and waitimg till next year. Unless it's the obvious and the owner doesn't want to spend any money. And the GM is only into prospects. The Pirates are 15 games over .500 but 6 games behind the Cardinals but they are trying to fill holes. This doesn't have to be an expensive proposition. You'd think that Sandy would want to get rid of the .170 hitters. As a Mets fans I'm insulted by the lineup we're seeing on a daily basis. Here is one article about Sandy and his nonsense. http://www.newsday.com/sports/colum...-make-some-moves-at-trade-deadline-1.10672349
Heard a great factoid the other day. The Wilpons owe the trustee under the Madoff scandal $30 million this year and $30 million next year. So there is no WAY we are increasing our payroll. Fuckers. _
Yeah, a couple of writers said there's no way much is gonna happen. Bob Klapish being one of them. He was like 'gtfoh nothing's happening'...lol The plus side is they're keeping all the young prospects and they're going to start catching up to the pitching......in theory I always really thought it was about next year myself because the roster was still a little mis-fitted. Yet if Wright and d'Arnaud don't get hurt they're right there. I think Matz and Thor showing so much so soon kinda got everyone excited, and opened the door for people to criticize the FO for not being better in position players as the team was "ready to make a run with this pitching staff" as some in the media starting yapping. Nobody knew for sure what Thor and Matz were gonna be until they got into MLB games Truth is Harvey's coming off a TJ, Wheeler's down with one, Niese was never healthy, and Matz and Thor came on like gangbusters, and Sandy's not trading anybody for a temporary fix.
I'll take a few summer rentals or temporary fixes. They won't cost you top prospects. Pittsburgh got Ramirez for the 30th ranked player in their org. The guy's hitting .352 in July. I'd do that in a minute.
I haven't given up on 2015 yet. And why should you. Best starting pitching staff in MLB, good closer. Strange things can happen in September. This 2017 stuff is right out of Sandy's playbook. Give me a few .250 hitters get rid of the .170 guys because you can't win with them. This team with help could make the playoffs.
This team couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat in the Hudson River. I don't care how good the pitching is, if you can't hit, you can't score and if you can't score, you can't win. Alderson isn't going anywhere as he's keeping payroll down and the Wilpons are in hock still up to their collective ears. As long as the focus is on pitching on draft day, the Mets will never develop home grown hitters. They don't even bother to put in bids on all those Latin defectors that show up every year. Why do I look to 2017? Hopefully by then the ownership of this team won't still be in money hoarding mode and will spend. In addition, the lessons of 2015 should have sunk in by then and they'll start drafting position players high and putting the emphasis on hitting instead of pitching.
