I guess we take whatever we can get at this point...Byrd would help. I'd like to see him here. Really he's just replacing Cuddyer tho. Maybe him and that CF in Milwaukee. Parra?, who bats left and could platoon w/Lagares. Give us a shot anyway
Well, to me there are a lot of available lower cost upgrades. And this is the time not ten days from now to make a move. We could be out of it by the 31st. Or if Wash doesn't get hot it right now gives us a good chance to stay in the pack. But if Sandy isn't aware that this present roster after the 18 inning game and yesterday isn't capable of winning (the record again since April is way below .500) then to me he's tossing out another season.
If the Mets bring up Conforto to me it just means they are unwilling to spend any amount of money for upgrades. Of course if they could get Todd Frazier in a deal that includes Conforto you'd have to do it.
Yeah Cespedes def has an attitude problem that rubs people the wrong way. But Gomez seems to have the same type of concerns. I would never want the team to give up Conforto for Cespedes but Nimmo wouldn't bother me IF we resign him in the offseason. Maybe its just homerism but to me our 2nd level prospects like Nimmo , Montero , Herrera could easily be top guys in other organizations. Those guys should be enough to get back a decent player that another team is looking to unload. Also no reason why guys like Flores , Murph , Plawecki and Lagares should be untouchable if were able to upgrade at those spots.
I was surprised when I read that about Cespedes. I like him and I never really saw it. Gomez is a cocky sonuvagun still, but I don't think a negative type guy, anymore anyway. I saw that Upton is not happening prolly. Also Conforto is the future LF too so there's that...I doubt they're trading him, or Roserio. I agree that the guys you mentioned should all be considered tho. We'll see I guess. Who knows?
Fwiw: "Mets are interested in acquiring Carlos Gomez and Gerardo Parra of the Brewers, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reported. The Mets have spoken with the Braves about IF Juan Uribe, who is owed roughly $3 million for the remainder of the season, Heyman reported." A CF/OF, and an INF, are logical, not counting on anything tho. d'ARnaud is getting closer... I don't want to see Conforto considering their original statements were that they didn't want to rush him. But wtf do the Coupons care about anything like that...like the players well being, or the fans, or anything like that
Great that the Mets won last night and showed some offense. The thing is to compete for the playoffs they have to win series not just one out of 3.
Brutal lost! Absolutely brutal! This one is on Terry. How many times has he used Familia for 4 outs and in the biggest game of the season you don't go to him in that spot? He was in yesterday in a 7-2 game though.
And thats what happens when you count on Parnell in a big spot. He has never been a big spot pitcher. Further proof today.
Look I can accept this L more than many of the others. At least it was a competitive game with a reasonable amount of offense. All relief pitchers blow games, Parnell was pretty good before today but he was horrendous. It wasn't the right day to be terrible. But the bullpen has been saving this team all season long and keeping them in the race. The thing is the Mets scored all of their runs in one inning. They were again shut out for most of the game. And only had 7 hits. Which for them isn't bad.
Terry should have stepped on the Nationals throat and either kepy Meija in or brought in Familia sooner. I don't think Parnell should have even seen action today. This would have been a huge victory and instead it shows why this team won't be a contender unless they get some more bats and put away teams
Yeah the one inning scoring is the thing that bothers me the most. Zimmermann wasn't great at all today and still pitched 7 solid innings. Duda and Flores took some awful swings and when Nieuwenhaus is the big offensive star it continues the problem. I could accept the pen blowing the game if it was Familia but I've been done with Parnell for years. Watching him pitch , I expect the worst.
Heading out to Citifield in about 20 mins. Got on-field BP passes and seats behind the plate, 4th row. For Kershaw!!! Ouch, this is going to hurt. _
Harvey just took 5-6 kids probably 9 or 10 years old each into the Met dugout and is letting them hold his bat and he's signing balls for them and just making them all beam. Just handed one of the kids his glove. Very very cool. _
Again and I hate to beat a dead horse, but 4 out of 9 Mets hitters tonight are batting way under .200: Recker at .137, Colon at .147, Mayberry at .170 and Campbell at .179. The highest BA in the lineup is a weak .256 by Lagares. There was a trade today between Oakland and the Astros. If Sandy's taking his time and playing Texas Showdown with the rest of the league's GMs than ok maybe he will be triumphant (and in his mind cool) and get the best of a deal. But right now they're losing games. And even if he wins the battle losing all of these games in July: you lose the war. Time to make a deal now.
Called a Kershaw no-no in his start against us in LA. Guess I was a little ahead of myself. I'll be SHOCKED if we get a base runner tonight. He looks like he's pitching against a little league team.
