We were winning with Sanchez and I believe that season we would of made a dent if Sanchez was declared the starter instead of genocide. Because if he was he wouldn't have injured in that pre-season game.
?? 8-8 and 6-9 is winning? His last two years were horrible. 8-8 is what we got in that inured season so if anything it was the same, not better nor worse (despite a lesser defense and lesser offense surrounding the QB). The guy had 4 seasons, 2 of which were the worst I've ever seen but still was given an opportunity to prove himself and the very first pass of the 5th season he does this... It's not even debatable. The coaching staff won't make the same mistakes, ownership won't make the same mistakes, and the team has been upgraded not downgraded. If Geno can't get it done this year, Fitz takes over and we see Petty and whoever we either draft or sign compete next year.
There was a video in one of the other threads or links (maybe the "Geno is great" link?) with Geno stepping up and beating Revis over the middle with a beautiful pass to Harvin. Must have been the 2nd NE games last season. Anyone wanna dig it out an post it? Probably Geno's best play as a NY Jet.
The popular answer would be 4 and I'd agree. Depending on the performance of those it could go to 6 or 8 or 10. Just depends on the first few.
well aware of the ny media, but their act is nothing compared to the over dramatization that comes from some jet fans
4 is a lot of games when you're planning on having a turnaround season and making the playoffs. This is the second time I've seen the Jets clearly in a turnaround mode. 2008 was the other time. I don't think Geno has 4 games unless he plays well in them. I don't think he has more than 1 game if he has a bad opening game.
I hope Geno does not start a single game and that may be the best thing for him and the fans. Let Ryan start and he may be the best bet to get us to the playoffs. I am sick and tired of seeing the disaster that is Geno
No it is not. 4 games is the typical number. If there was an actual competition then maybe it would be 2-3 games and that's if we were 0-2, 1-2, or 0-3. The new regime isn't giving up on a young QB that fast and they don't have to, they don't have the pressure that Rex and company had last year. If Fitz comes out and lights it up in the preseason it could change to a shorter leash but the odds of that happening aren't great.
The pressure on the new regime is going to be intense from the first game on. The Jets didn't spend their money the way they spent it to have a 5th straight non-playoff season. You don't bring back Revis and Cro unless you are planning to win this year. You don't have much left out of Mangold or D'Brick either. The Jets are likely to be in a full throttle rebuild inside of three years. Geno doesn't have a couple of bad games available. If he sucks next year the Jets will move to Fitzpatrick on the fly and before the bye for sure. This regime has zero investment in Geno Smith and he is worth exactly what his play on the field suggests to them, whatever that is.
So like I said, 4 weeks. And that's IF he plays badly what would (I) give him, which is what the original question was.
Charted Geno's career picks hoping to see a reduction in bad decisions/misread coverages in year 2. It's a very subjective project because there are multiple causes for every interception; a bad decision that was also a great defensive play, a misread coverage where the ball was also deflected. 5 different people could chart the picks and have 5 different tallies. I just went with the one that appeared to be the main culprit. 2013: Bad Decisions: 12 Misread Coverages: 4 Bad Throws: 1 Hit Mid Throw: 1 Great Defensive Plays: 2 Tips/Deflections: 0 Miscommunications: 1 Hail Mary's: 0 2014: Bad Decisions: 3 Misread Coverages: 2 Bad Throws: 4 Hit Mid Throw: 2 Great Defensive Plays: 1 Tips/Deflections: 0 Miscommunications: 0 Hail Mary's: 1 He was absolutely awful in 2013, it was hard to even watch some of the interceptions. Some of the 'bad decisions' were the most egregious things I've ever seen. There were a lot less overall boneheaded plays last year. He cut down the number multi-interception games from 7 to 2, but that's the least flattering compliment you can give somebody.
No, not 4 weeks. 1-3 is no playoffs. Not 4 weeks. If the Jets lose week 1 and he is in the conversation about why they lost he is going to be done. Ryan Fitzpatrick is in town and while he is not all that exciting his worst days are about as good as Geno's average game so far. He's going to start week 2 if the Jets lose week 1 and Geno was part of the problem. He may start week 2 if the Jets lose week 1 because Geno wasn't the solution. QB is not a position where you get to be "not part of the problem" unless you are very good while that is happening.
Four pre-season games is more than enough for him to stink it up. Should see Fitz by week one. Year without the Geno !! Need a QB with a brain. He does not have a clue what his job is let alone what everyone else on the team or defense is going to do. Might want to start out by learning to tell time. Can't wait till he is benched for real.
If Fitz lights it up in the preseason I don't see why they would still go with Smith. The new staff is here to win, they have no allegiance to Smith. Maybe if while Fitz is lighting it up, Smith is showing a big leap forward in his play, then maybe they go with Smith but if he looks the same and Fitz looks great I think it would be a no brainer.
