To be honest, I've only really tried once so far. It's difficult here in NE FL as most are pretty far off the beach usually when it's flat enough to warrant. (been a lake lately, but offshore winds have caused a bit of an upwelling pushing the big macks further out) but I'm not giving up. I want to tackle a Tarpon before summer's over.

Now if I was in South Florida, where it's usually FLAT and DEEP close to the beach I'd be out looking for dolphin and sails all the time :)

on that note, I may try to find some reds tomorrow morn. I already told some clients I work for that I have some appointments in the morning :D
PM T-storms have made it too difficult to fish after work

Tried to hit it early before work yesterday..... winds were already blowing at sunrise, and flood tide had the reds WAY deep in the grass. ended up with one small flounder and a mini redfish before coming home at 10

This is what I did to my yak though...... stealth with some SeaDek. Bought a small sheet and cut it to my liking. used a Dremel and a router to give it a "finished" edge. Hopefully now I quit spooking the skinny water fish.... I'm running out of excuses ;):

Wow.. Looks like something a Navy Seal would use for a beach insertion. :)

haha, thanks. My brother even said it looks like one of our old GiJoe toys. It's my plastic assault vehicle.... even has padding spots for the tips of my weapons.
Don't think it would take a bullet very well though

but it'll have to hold me over until I win the Lottery and can buy an Everglades 243

Sounds like a great day. I was thinking about Captree after pricing the day boats out of Montauk. I've always wanted to fish Great South Bay.

    YEEEAH CUZ!
You reel that beast in? Give me the specs....
How far out, tackle size (I'm guess a 50W) What did he eat? pulling artificials or slow drifting livies?

family's eating good this week.... or did he go to market? ;)

We were about 5 miles off of rabbit island on the east side, after spending the day trolling and hitting a buoy in between oahu and Molokai. Not much action and we were already pulling some lines in when this guy bit. The guy I fish with (it's his stuff) doesn't use anything bigger than 50, Shimano TLD II using plastic skirted Makata lure. I didn't reel her in, did gaffe though.

And that babe didn't get close to a market! We each took some home to feed the Ohana and give to neighbors and friends.

Break out your old topwater lures, silver spoons and diamond jigs
Those guys definitely arent the best eating but they're sure fun to catch (especially on topwaters)

Get your smoker ready, those ones are my fav on the smoker. Make sure you give them a good overnight brine beforehand

With the approaching full moon (today) I took a few opportunities for some brief inshore kayak trips before or after work this week.
Not all that productive (last eve was skunk city.... got worked by some weather too) but I did manage a few decent fish mon night and tues morn. Some fun to catch and some good to eat...... 2 19" trout (1 caught on a 3" Berkeley "Powerbait" white paddle tail, the other on a MirroLure "topdog" became fish tacos the past 2 days..... Thought I had a snook one morning but it turned out to be a 25" ladyfish.

Still want to wrassle with a Tarpon off the beach, but whenever I have a chance the weather doesnt cooperate

btw, C... I may be up sometime to see my bro, the METS and hopefully some stripers off LI later this summer

Mother Nature threw us a curve Sunday morning. Small Craft advisories for high seas and winds above 15kts. I would have been good but wifey, not so much. We went back to bed. :)
