    Years before.

Kraft always love Beli and wanted him as his coach.

if he loved him so much why didn't he hire him when BP bolted? why didn't he fire Carroll after '98 and hire BP in '99 when he wouldn't have had any issues?

Can't answer that. Wasn't in Kraft's limo when he started the courtship.

But I've read enough stories about how Kraft thought about Beli when he was on the Pats staff to not be naive and think there wasn't some smoke there.

Could have been, I do know Kraft thought highly of him in his 1 year with him but was it too much to ask for BP to be up front w/ BB? to give him a clue that he was retiring rather than keep him in the dark? if he does that the Kraft stuff isn't an issue and BP wanted to leave after '98 so he knew the end here was near. I guess it doesn't really matter now though, can't change the past. Let's just hope a guy Groh and Parcells hired for the 2000 staff can lead us to a SB soon(Bowles).

    I disagree.

The Patriots job was the better job on paper and Belechik would have taken it even if Parcells left.

Honor has nothing to do with it. If you had been stuck your whole career playing on an abysmal loser like the Saints, would you have wanted the same for your sons? Further, why should players HAVE to play for the team that drafts them? If they've grown up hating that team, or didn't like the HC or GM when you met them, or didn't think it was the right system or situation for you, why should you be stuck? We no longer have slavery in the US. I hate the Cowboys and the Raiders more than even the Pats, Bills or Dolphins. If I were one of these kids and a high draft pick and those five teams expressed interest, I'd let them know right off the bat, not to draft me, because I would never sign with them. Now maybe that would be cutting off my nose to spite my face, and maybe it's thinking too much like a fan rather than a player, but if I were confident enough in my abilities of being able to be a solid pro, if not a star, then I'd do it and not look back. Some other team would draft me.

You're nuts. Parcells had one very good draft in 2000. The rest of his drafts sucked balls. He cost us one of the all time great QBs and two of the best LTs in NFL history. You can keep blowing him if you want. I despise the bastard.

The Jets job was better, NE was a sinking ship when he took over and kept sinking until Brady lifted them up.

That sinking ship sure won a lot of Super Bowls since then.

they did thanks to #12 primarily and getting BB. Had BB stayed here and we get Brady we'd have been winning SBs. NE was never the most talented team in the league.

Who'd you rather work for? The prospect of either Dolan or Woody (the two finalists to buy NYJ), or Kraft that you had a previous working relationship with that you knew would at least be tolerable.

I've always thought BP and BB were smart to step away when faced with the prospect of Dolan/Woody. After the courts ruled BB couldn't take another HC job due to his contractual obligations, BP wisely traded a coach who didn't want to be around for a draft pick.

Woody was already in place I believe and Woody has proven to be a hands off owner for the most part. Kraft has also proved to be the best in the business but at the time Kraft didn't have the same reputation and NE was getting worse each season.

Looking back BP should have made BB sit out, N E would have hired another coach and he wouldn't have tormented us for 15+ years.

I haven't read BP's book, but the published excerpts indicate the Woody deal was not yet complete. Not that it matters, because Woody would have been the lesser of two evils IMHO. But the same result. GTF out of Dodge.

I agree he should have made BB sit out. Sometimes the best trades are the ones not made. But NOBODY could've foreseen what has taken place the last 15+ years.

I think it was known he was buying the team but did become official after BB "resigned".

Which might further explain both coaches decision to step away from the job. Back to your point about "Woody has proven to be a hand's off owner", who knew he would be that coming in? And if it wasn't already know, which Dolan do you get? The Knicks Dolan or the Rangers Dolan? You'd think they were different people based on subsequent track records.

if Dolan won the bid then you run the other way. Didn't Kraft meddle w/ BP which was one of the reasons he left?

So what I'm hearing here is: If Hess hangs on a few more years, the Jets beat the Rams for the VLT in XXXVI?

Somebody get me a doctor and a DeLorean!

Was it meddling or putting the say in player personnel in someone else's hands? I feel BP wanted to take that next step beyond just being HC, and he was not given that opportunity in NE. Despite not liking the "groceries" forced upon him, BP sure took his fair share of groceries with him to other teams over his career. Giants to Pats, Pats to Jets, Jets to Dallas.

it was meddling to Parcells, clearly it worked as the moves in '96 put them over the top(specifically the Terry Glenn pick).

what is funny about that is under BP Richie Anderson couldn't get on the field then he breaks out post BP and BP signs him in Dallas.
