I actually don't hate religion at all--just religious zealots who cannot think for themselves. I'm a Roman Catholic and God fearing. I just don't feel compelled to believe all the bullshit my Church has handed down to me over the years--too much of it has been proven wrong, the Church has moved the goalposts too many times for me to believe all the rest of it chapter and verse. I view my religion like anything else, with an educated mind, by observation, skeptical enough to dismiss the obvious horseshit and accepting of that which I deem worthy. Believing it ALL because that's what my church elders tell me I have to do is against the nature of a well educated person. It'd be like reading a draft guide and not being able to make you own judgments on a QB based upon what you see. _

That you tube video you dug up is too stupid to repost, but did you notice how the atheist was angry, overly emotional, and irrational? That's what happens when you know you're losing the argument and you got nothing.
So you are a Protestant Christian, and yet you somehow know all about the Catholic Church, and what the Church "needs"? When was the last time you were even in a Catholic Church, or saw all of the happy families who show up on Sunday to worship together? Or spoken with those happy Catholic who love their Priests, and would trust them with their children because they know the truth and don't just read the tabloids? We Catholics love and respect our Priests, and we are sad when one of them is promoted to become the pastor of another parish, or when the bishop decides to restructure parishes and re-assign Priests due to changes in the number of people in different parishes? Those are the real reasons Priests get re-assigned. But the Catholic-bashers just assume that whenever a Priest has been transferred he "must be a predator", or that the Church is covering up a scandal. The number of Priests who have actually been convicted of any wrongdoing is TINY; the vast majority of the approx. 5% who have been accused have either been acquitted, or the case thrown out for lack of evidence, or the case dropped because it was deemed to be baseless. You will have a hard time finding an instance where a Priest was actually convicted of anything; I tried poring through the list on that website the Catholic-bashers on here keep pointing to, and about 95% of the cases are baseless accusations. Look at it yourself if you don't believe me. But you're right, it's pointless to debate this. A tiny footnote; instead lets talk about what the Catholic Church really is, all of the good that it does in the world, all of the active parishes around the world, the Catholics in the middle east who love their Faith so much, and treasure it to the point that they are willing to risk being killed by muslim extremists. Those who risk their lives on a weekly basis to receive the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist from an ordained Priest. That's the Catholic Church that is loved and respected around the world.
So let me ask you then.....what is it that you DO believe? What parts of the Catholic Church do you agree with, and what parts do you disagree with? Let's have a respectful discussion about that, and see where it leads...OK? BTW, I don't believe what the Catholic Church teaches just because I was taught it as a child; I have reviewed it and studied it with an open mind as an adult, using critical thinking, and I can honestly say that everything in the Catechism of the Catholic Church makes perfect sense to me, and it all works together as a beautiful whole. But I will be respectful of your viewpoints if you don't agree with all of it, but some people don't agree because they were never taught what the Church actually teaches, and/or they don't fully understand it. After our discussion, if you still don't believe certain aspects of the Church, then fine, I will respect that...
That's a fair post, and respectful. Thank you for that. But I would ask you....do you have kids? If so, why did you choose to have them? Do you need kids to survive? Do children help you in any tangible way, in terms of making money or surviving? Of course not, but we love our children anyway. They give us joy, make us laugh, help us to keep things in perspective at times and even help us keep our priorities straight, we are proud when they learn, and grow, and do good things. ...... In a similar way, God doesn't need us, but he loves us as a father or mother loves their children. He intervenes in human history from time to time in order to teach us, and help us to find our way, but he doesn't want to just do it all for us. Just like with our kids, we teach them, but we don't do everything for them, or they will never learn. But taking a step back from organized religion, let me ask you this...do you believe in a creator of the universe?

Lying to defend the activity of these priests is a sin, Mr. Truth - a mortal sin. Having been informed of this a month ago, I would think a serious catholic would cease such activity but you haven't. It makes me question whether you are serious about anything you write here or are just trolling the group. It also makes me question whether you are just mocking the catholicism you claim to hold so dearly.
i absolutely believe something created this universe. but my belief is also that it's so uncomprehensible, and so far off from anything that any religion has made it out to be. and here's my opinion on your God- he does need us. he's a gangster. the ten commandments are a joke. 7 of them dont even belong in the top 50. clearly written and made up by man, not god. if it really is the word of god, then that cat is supremely disappointing and no different from us humans. and before we get into "thats the old testament, i believe in the new testament" stuff, let's just get right down to the fundamental belief of your religion, new testament-wise. god wants to forgive mankind for its sins right, so he sends himself down to earth in the form of his son, born to a virgin, and to the most illiterate part of the world to die a gruesome and horrible sacrifice-like death to forgive everyone? that's the crudest most grisly, horrible, simply outlandish solution that a creator of the universe could possibly come up with. im sorry but ill never buy that story as long as i live and breath. it's beyond me that the world still operates off this kind of stuff in this day and age. i dont have kids, i have 23 nieces and nephews though, and i get to rile and wind them up and be cool uncle tommy. when it comes time to say no, i call my brothers or sisters into the mix for that part haa haa!
It's pretty obvious that pedophiles are attracted to the priesthood because they can be around kids. Same in sports there have been some huge cases of this in junior hockey and other youth sports. These creeps activally search out venues where there will be vulnerable children. But it looks like the new Pope is trying to do something about this.
