I think we keep Snacks because he will be the lease expensive. There is a very large probability that Sheldon or Mo will be the odd man out.
I thought the only reason the players talked like this was because Rex had zero control over the team?
That's cool. He's not as good at his position as they are either IMO. Top paid DT is currently over 15 million per year btw.
I...just... I am sorry, but we were a 4-12 team last year (3-13 if the Dolphins didn't quit week 17). And yes, it was mostly the fault of the other units of the team, but if we supposedly have the top 1-3 d-linemen in all of football (so they each claim) then I would think that would carry us to like 6-10 or 8-8 alone.
Drawing a blank on our NT we brought in 4-5 yrs ago that was DOMINANT for like 1-1/2 years b4 his knees gave out. I remember him tossing Mawae aside like a rag doll and suffocating the QB. DANG! What was his NAME?????
Run stuffing nose tackles are easy to find in free agency. Look how little attention a promising young guy like Kenrick Ellis got. He signed a 1yr deal with the Giants, didn't get too many offers. Heck, we might bring him back next year. We might actually be better off in that case if we adjust to a front 4 with Mo, Sheldon, Coples & Lenny playing DL. And on 1st down or 3rd and short you can go back to plugging a big run stuffer inside, like Kenrick, Deon Simon, TJ Barnes, somebody like that.

Run stuffing nose tackles are one of the more replaceable positions in the NFL. There's a reason the guys who end up being able to rush the passer at the same time get $10-$15 million a year and the 2 down run suffers get $3 or $4 million. It doesn't make them completely unimportant but with the way NFL defenses seem to be shifting to the 3-4 they're not that hard to find. The 4-3 interior lineman are a lot harder to find because they have to be versatile enough to play in different situations. 3-4 tackles need to hold their ground and grab as many jerseys as they can. It's technically a 2 gap position but the two gaps are taken care of if you blow up one player (center). As others have said teams are a lot more worried about our two ends than they are Harrison. That's not to discredit that he's very effective at what he does but while he's decently quick off the ball he's not quick or tactical enough with his hands to ever really be a pass rushing factor. He's also too short to really plow over a center like Kris Jenkins did in the clip. Push the center back and force the runner anywhere except the A gaps. There's a reason these guys float around the league for 5-6 years at $3-$4 million a year and then their done because they lose any quickness they had. The way the NFL has evolved into quick passing leaves 3-4 run stuffing noses only effective to about a quarter of the plays in a game. 1st and 10 or 3rd and short. Outside of that your 2nd &9's after a short gain on first down pushes teams to 3 and 4 receiver sets meaning defenses have no choice but to pull these guys off the field. Offenses like the Pats love seeing these guys on the field in 2nd and 8s. I was praying someone matched his tender and threw us an extra 2nd.
He doesn't have the "pedigree". He'll probably get a decent deal if he makes the Pro Bowl, around 6-7 mil. per year. Around the same Kyle Williams got, or what Dan Williams just signed. If he thinks he's on Marcel Dareus' ~ 100 mil. level he probably got hit in the head too many times. He'll get something around 3-4 years for 25 mil. if he really has a good year. I rather move on with a guy like Kenrick for a 1-2 year deal worth like 2-4 mil.
Snacks has graded out as a top 5 run stuffer for 2 years running now. In 2013 I thought maybe it was RexHype and all the other talent but he was just as good in 2014. If he has another really strong year this year the Jets will not be able to re-sign him before he hits the market. There's no NT franchise number, he's just a DT once we get there and that number is too much to pay even to keep him around for a year. You never miss the quiet stars until they're gone.
I think there is a reason that Refrigerator Perry, Tony Saragusa, and Vince Wilfork have done the Superbowl shuffle.
The Jets have always seemed to have a good run of NTs in the modern era. Kris Jenkins, then Sione Pouha, now Snacks.
THANK YOU!!!!! I can watch that over and over. That RB #20 wanted no part of stepping in and helping out Mawae!
Everyone one at any defensive or WR position thinks they are the best. Snacks is good, but let's be honest....not worth it. If he commands big money, time to find a new stud. They did it after Kris Jenkins went down, and they did it after Pouha left. Perhaps it's time for big TJ Barnes to come into his own.
