1. 2011 AFC Championship vs. Steelers 2. 2010 AFC Championship vs. Colts 3. 2004 AFC Divisional Game vs. Steelers
I'm older than many of you, but the fake spike will always hold this spot. I was watching the game with my father who just happen to be a die hard Dolphin fan and all he did for the next twenty minutes was laugh about it.
I was too young to really remember that one, but I've seen it since on nfl network programs. It really was such an awful way to lose. I think we lost the next 32 of 36 games or something close to that . . .
I am not sure if this was mentioned yet: 2002 Playoff Loss at Oakland. The Jets were BY FAR the hottest team in the NFL. Coming off a 41-0 win over Peyton Manning and the Colts. It was 10-10 at halftime. Then everything just fell apart in the 2nd half leading to a 30-10 loss if I remember right. It sucked because I felt the team could have gone all the way. They were just rolling at the right time. Oakland was just the better team. However, the future looked bright with young Chad Pennington at QB. Sadly, a first of many injuries would take place before the 2003 season even began.
I loved the '98 team, but I was so accustomed to the Jets being terrible in those years, that I didn't have any real expectation of winning a super bowl, or even of ruining Elway's last game at Mile High. I enjoyed the lead while we had it, and was sad that we lost, but not devastated. I was the most disappointed I remember being was the Ravens loss in 2000. I thought we were the better team all game, and I just knew Testaverde was making up for the '99 season, which should have been our year. To me, that game marked the end of that era for the Jets-- after that was Parcell's legacy Salary Cap hell, the outsourcing of our secondary to Houston via the expansion draft, the outsourcing of everyone else to the Redskins..... It didn't happen all at once, but I never again felt like the team was as tight as it had been from 1997-2000.
The way I remember it, Oakland just owned the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, but particularly their Offensive line. I had not seen our linemen get handled like that at all that season.
1. 2010 AFC Champiosnhip Game. this was bad at the time as I was at the game which made it worse but whatb has happened since has made this loss sting even more 2. 1998 AFC Championship- we were as good as Denver, we handed them the game. Best Jets team in my lifetime. 3. 1982 AFC championship- chance to get to SB, losing to biggest rivals. 4. 1986 at Cle- 2 OT loss, should have been in title game. 5. 1981 vs. Bills WC game- fall behind big, make great comeback then fall a few yards short. 6. 1994 vs. Miami- big late lead blown again like so many of those years 7. 2002 at Oak div rd- 10-10 late in the 3rd, thought we really had a SB shot. 8. 2011 NYG- not sure we would have done anything but had we won we at least prevent the giants from winning SB. this play really started a downward trend where we bottomed out(hopefully) last year. 9. 1993 at Hou week 18- win and in, we lost 24-0. 10. 1997 at Det week 17- win and in, got screwed on Leon washington INT and lost close game, could have gone from 1-15 to playoffs.
it was 10-10 very late in the 3rd, the game changed on a Chad INT down the sideline that Coles easily could have knocked away if he was hustling. after that they scored and they rolled us in the 4th.
Yeah, that loss really hurt me, looking back. I don't know how I didn't think of it til today. Good list junc. You did not include the 09 Championship though. Jets had a 17-6 lead. It hurt. You left it off due to a rookie Sanchez vs. Peyton Manning in Indy probably. The team overachieved that year too. Still, it was tough. All went downhill when Greene got injured.
all title game and playoff losses hurt but I felt like Indy was far and away the better team, they kind of toyed w/ us early but dominated that 2nd half.
Fuck that game. I was at that game, and was living by Pittsburgh at the time. Thought for sure we would pull the game out.
1. Losing Revis and watching him go to the patriots for one season and help them win the superbowl 2. The Jets losing to the Broncos in the AFC championship game. 3. The Jets losing to the Colts in the AFC championship game
Steelers 05 playoffs loss That game and mets loss in 06 playoffs are the only sporting events that brought me close to tears
unfortunately we have had to deal w/ Brady and the Pats in the greatest stretch of Jets football in our history.
at the time I thought we'd be in many more and it didn't hurt as bad as it would knowing BP would be gone a year later, BB would go to NE and win SBs.
we lost lot more than just Vinny that year. amazingly we had a chance in that game w/ Tupa at QB then Mirer came in and threw that INT that cost us the game.
