Absolutely agree with whoever finally named Barkum and will raise you a Richard Caster. 83 and 88, two tall guys who played both TE and WR and could get down the field and had decent hands. With the similar appearing numbers, watching in the stadium it was often difficult to tell which guy was on the play.
I think it has to be Dan Alexander, guy was just good and consistent. I also think he missed like 3 games in 12 years which is pretty amazing actually it was from 1978-1989 he missed 6 starts. Pretty crazy for an OL to do that at a time when the rules allowed for the defense to be more aggressive. Johnny Hector is another one that comes to mind as does Joe Fields who is probably HOF worthy but he played on some really really bad teams and never got the recognition he deserved.

I'll take the Barkum credit. I loved Caster too, but since they played together I think Caster got a little more attention, giving Barkum the underrated edge ; ) However, when I mentioned Barkum, I gave him extra credit for playing both WR and TE, something that I had forgotten Caster did as well. Both were superb Jets.
No doubt Pennington would be in conversations with Manning, Brady, Rodgers and Brees if he didn't fuck up his shoulder. No doubt.
I doubt it. Certainly his injuries hurt him, but he wasn't cut from the same cloth as the four you mentioned.
Aside from the fact that too many people love Chadwick, he could not stay on the field, could not throw the 20 yard out pass, was overpaid, and ended up playing for the fish. China Dollington. Heh.
Chad is very underrated by Jet fans but even healthy I'm not sure he'd be up there w/ some of those other guys though he was a top 2 QB in 2002 which was the only almost full season before his shoulder injury.
Yeah, I agree with that guy junc^ It wasn't about the injury, he didn't have the arm to start. But, it was about his arm. If his arm was better, and could make the same throws, he'd be there, in my most humble opinion I guess I'm one of the too many that loved Chad
I liked Chad, but if anything I felt he was overrated, not underrated. Great intangibles, had a handful of excellent games for us, but i never looked at him as "the one" to lead us to the promised land. Not once ever. I thought Vinnie could in '98, but I never felt that way about old #10.
Joe Namath. Super Bowl champion MVP and Hall of Famer. But apparently he wasn't very good. Folks are comparing him to Geno. _
