Geno's last 4 games of the 2013 season which were good confused the Jets org. They thought the guy was going to be a good player and an improved Qb in 2014. But they still went out and signed Mike Vick. I don't know whose fault it was deciding to go with Geno as the starter, Rex or Idzik. A lot of the press blamed Idzik and said he was micromanaging. Where did they get that info from (if not from Rex). And when his mother says it you know who the source is. GMs do have a say in who the starting Qb is going to be. They both said it was a team decision so you'd have to blame both of them. Vick should have started the season. Now we're in the same boat. The guy stinks but has a good last five games. To me I'd love to see a real Qb competition. But as for Geno if he does get the starting job: this is his last chance. It's year 3 and you expect progress. If he doesn't play well I would expect Bowles to bench him much earlier in the season. He gets a couple of games and that's it!
Geno is the perfect example of why it's best to sit a rookie QB for at least one season, preferably two. We all know Bryce Petty is not ready to start and it would be a nightmare if he did start. The same was true for Geno. If starting his first 2 seasons did not ruin him, then Geno will be OK going into year 3. Like I asked in other threads, if Geno sat behind Nacho 20013,14, and was starting for the first time this season would he play better or worse than a Geno who got killed playing his first 2 seasons. Curious question, I'm not sure. It ruined David Carr, but it might have helped Geno. We'll get to find out soon.
Every NFL team has quarterback "issues" at one point or another. The Jets have them in spades. Bad drafts, bad coaching, bad decisions, bad ownership, bad fans... Bad news.
To me this is hilarious. Obviously the "making the leap" guys are purely looking at season-ending stats and haven't watched every Jet game the past season. I keep hearing "The last 4 games he did this....did that...looks good." Cmon. He did the same thing a year ago. All he's proven (if anything) is that it takes him 12 NFL regular season games to "warm up." There's no reason to believe he will start out with the momentum that ended the season right out of the gates. Really, the moment I gave up on him was that Buffalo game where he threw 3 INTs int he first quarter. Completely oblivious to coverage. There were many throws that made out well that could have easily been INTs. Look at that TD throw to Percy Harvin vs. the Vikings. Percy made a great adjustment on that ball.
Au contraire mon ami. I'm actually bullish on the season...in spite of the question mark at quarterback. Besides, if the Jets dictated my mood, I'd have killed myself long ago.
I don't have high hopes for Geno this year or frankly ever as a starting QB but I'd like to see him surprise us. This is likely his last chance with this team to be a starter. If he flops early Fitz takes over probably after the bye week but who knows it could be before the bye. imho Geno's days of a long leash are gone, I'd welcome the quick hook rather than waste another year of geNO. There is no Rex this year under orders from Idiot to play Geno and I get the feeling this staff won't allow his stupidity on the field to continue without being yanked. The best part of this year is that Bryce Petty has the year to sit, watch and learn without being thrown to the wolves. Its been a long long long time since this franchise has been able to develop a QB. I'm not saying he will be the future but they are finally treating QB development the right way with Petty.
Exactly how is Geno "ahead of Sanchez was at this point in his career"...? He ain't gettin' more pussy...that's fer sure.
Geno is EASILY the better arm talent, I don't even think that's up for debate. Mark had the cerebral aspect over Geno, but let's be serious Mark was a dumb-ass too on the field. Geno learns the pro offense prior to the pros and I don't even think it would be up for debate on who the better QB is.
My dad always told me: "To be a Jets fan is to suffer..." Funny thing is, he never pushed me to take after him and be a Jets fan. I did this to myself.
One of two things is true about Geno at this point: 1. He's going to be one of the few NFL QB's to have a very crappy start to his career and still turn out to be good. 2. The Jets haven't got the message yet about his true abilities and have allowed that fact to paralyze the team at the most important position on the field. I don't know which of the two cases above is true but if he's still playing at the bye and sucking next year it's definitely #2.
Haha.... you Mark Sanchez 2009 23 NYJ QB 6 15 15 8-7-0 196 364 53.8 2444 12 3.3 20 5.5 65 6.7 4.9 12.5 162.9 63.0 31.49 26 195 5.77 4.07 6.7 1 1 6 2010 24 NYJ QB 6 16 16 11-5-0 278 507 54.8 3291 17 3.4 13 2.6 74 6.5 6.0 11.8 205.7 75.3 49.24 27 171 5.84 5.38 5.1 4 6 9 Geno Smith 2013 23 NYJ QB 7 16 16 8-8-0 247 443 55.8 3046 12 2.7 21 4.7 69 6.9 5.3 12.3 190.4 66.5 35.94 43 315 5.62 4.17 8.8 2 5 7 2014 24 NYJ QB 7 14 13 3-10-0 219 367 59.7 2525 13 3.5 13 3.5 74 6.9 6.0 11.5 180.4 77.5 35.43 28 175 5.95 5.13 7.1 1 2 6 Mark Sanchez last season 2014 28 PHI QB 3 9 8 4-4-0 198 309 64.1 2418 14 4.5 11 3.6 72 7.8 7.1 12.2 268.7 88.4 58.24 23 151 6.83 6.18 6.9 7 You really think Sanchez' 2014 number are unobtainable by Geno in his 6th season?!? Also, Mark has had some cellar games against bad teams in his first two seasons also.
I love when people point to the Buffalo game regarding Geno. That was obviously pathetic and his worst showing of his career but that was Mark Sanchez for his entire final year as a Jet. How insanely laughable was it when his very first throw of his final season was a pick 6 by a rookie defensive lineman in Detroit (preseason week 1.) Nag all you want on Geno and most of it is deservingly so but he still has a ways to go to reach the misery Sanchez left out there.
You missed the part in those stats, where Geno regressed in year two..Threw less TD passes. (While Sanchez played on a 'run first' team)...And ...no to put too fine a point on it.....Didn't win near as many games... Then there are those pesky 4 playoff wins. 6 6 4-2 95 157 60.5 1155 9 5.7 3 1.9 80 7.4 7.6 12.2 192.5 94.3 4 26 7.01 7.29 2.5 2 2
I'm hoping that Fitz can keep the Int's to a minimum and we should be fine or at least have a season worth watching. As for that other QB in the topic. Four preseason games should be enough to show why one of the worst QB's in the league is well, one of the worst QB's in the league. On a side note. I will be more than happy to eat crow if he is anything above bottom 10 in the league.
YEAR OF THE GENO! My man Geno said he's a pro-bowl caliber QB in December then after he made that statement he followed up with 1,001 yards 6 TD's & 2 picks having the 2nd highest QB rating in the month of December. Now that the QB-Killer (on both sides of the ball) is gone and Chan is in with his spread system Geno will pick up where he left off and continue to get better and better with the new weapons around him. Stop doubting your QB and enjoy next seasons show!
"You missed the part in those stats, where Geno regressed in year two..Threw less TD passes." and "While Sanchez played on a 'run first' team..." Dude, I just posted the stats. They're right in front of your face. You're completely wrong. "And ...no to put too fine a point on it.....Didn't win near as many games..." So, you're going to hold against Geno the fact that he played on much worse teams and had Stephen Hill as one of his starting WRs?...that the team replaced Revis and Cro with Millner who was injured and a bag of hammers? How about the 2014 draft? And as far as those pesky playoff games are concerned, it's really difficult to compare them when one of the players doesn't actually get to play in any of them. I really don't know what's most stupefying, 1). Your response of hahaha.... 2). Your attempt to make a coherent argument 3). The fact that someone liked your post of hahahaha..... On second thought, I'm going to concede the point to you so that I don't have to talk to you anymore. Have a good day.
