I'm board and have been looking at the roster closely and with two months and all of training camp to go, the roster is 93% complete. Projections considering possible injuries, player suspensions, trades or an undrafted breakout player. Offense - 25 LWR 15 Marshall, 11 Kerley, 84 Smith RWR 87 Decker, 10 Graham LT 60 Ferguson, 71 Ijalana LG 66 Colon, 67 Winters C 74 Mangold RG 77 Carpenter, 70 Dozier RT 68 Giacomini, 75 Aboushi TE 85 Cumberland, 88 Amaro, 47 Davis QB 14 Fitzpactrick, 7 Smith, 9 Petty FB 40 Bohanon RB 33 Ivory, 22 Ridley, 30 Stacy, 29 Powell Defense - 25 LDE 96 Wilkerson, 62 Williams NT 94 Harrison RDT 99 Barnes, 78 Douzable ROLB 98 Coples, 93 Babin RILB 56 Davis, 53 Mays, 54 Lattimore LILB 52 Harris, 49 Jones LOLB 97 Pace, 57 Reilly, 55 Mauldin LCB 24 Revis, 27 Milliner SS 21 Gilchrist, 37 Jarrett FS 25 Pryor, 39 Allen RCB 31 Cromartie, 22 Williams N-CB 41 Skrine, 43 McDougle Special Teams - 3 P 4 Quigley PK 2 Folk LS 46 Purdum Some became easier when Richardson got nailed for 4 games, since it allowed me to keep both Babin and Douzable. It is pretty common for teams to keep ten DBs since we are a passing league, but ten LBs? I was ready to cut Babin due to age and low productivity last year. He was a Rex pickup and Rex is gone. Now depending on his play he could stick around even longer. When Richardson comes back I think Douzable or Simon, if there will go to the PS. Marcus Williams is in a crowded group of DBs, and he has trade value right now, so I was going to mark him as a trade to the Bills or any other team that gets an injury in camp. I kept him with the team since the D-line is supplemented by our bigger LBs who play DE in our 4-3. Walter Powell was that last guy I cut leaving only five true receivers. If we have any injuries or Jets cut any one the others I kept, he will be the 6th receiver, due to his return value. We have ample TE support to make up for only 5 WR in the passing game. Plus, if Geno is throwing the ball it doesn't really matter. Practice Squad - 10 (5 offensive/5 defensive) 18 Powell WR, 81 Evans WR, 63 Freeman C, 64 Harrison G, 3 Heaps QB 65 Simon NT, 76 Walls NT, 51 Enemkpali LB, 44 Barnes LB, 35 Eskridge S Douzable is still PS eligible, so if Deon Simon out plays him in training camp these two could easily switch places. My dark horse for making the 53 man roster is Durell Eskridge at safety (I'm a Cuse fan so had to keep Eskridge around.). My not so reach is Enemkpali beating out Babin at LB. Who would you swap out?
carpenter is lg not rg-this is fact not opinion aboushi will get the rg1 j.harrison will be on the active roster for fear of being poached off the p.s. winters is a likely cut chris osowu(sp) will be wr5 we are not keeping 4 rbs and a fb either tommy bo or stacy is a cut i agree on ik beating out babin, especially if mauldin show something in preseason
One guy I wonder about is Stevan Ridley. I read a June article where he wasn't overly optimistic about being ready this season. I liked the signing but he had a significant knee injury. The Db situation with Walls, etc. will be based on health and Bowles evaluation. But they ain't going to trade anybody to Rex or in the AFC East.
This. I'd rather keep an additional useful player than a fullback that can't block. It'd be different if he was a guy who blew open holes but he's a pedestrian blocker and I guess as good of a receiving fullback as he can be on his 5 yard pickups once a game. Use Kellen Davis as the lead blocker if we can't find one that's going to contribute in a meaningful way. The inside linebacker position is one of the most interesting ones. We have several veterans with different skillsets fighting for a roster spot. One has to believe that Lattimore is a lock due to special teams contributions. I'd like to keep 4 to diversify in using Erin Henderson on passing downs for David Harris. Joe Mays is a hell of a hitter in coverage. It's going to be very interesting to see who stays and more importantly how they contribute.
Nice job. We have no kick returner so I would swap out Graham with Owusu. Pace, Colon, Bohanon hits the streets. Amaro will take over as H-Back and eliminate Bohannon position. Milliner starts the season on PUP. For the 3 that are cut in Pace, Colon and Bohanon. I would go with Eskridge FS, Harrison G and Saxton.
Calvin Pryor is a huge question for me. I get that he played more at SS, but the issues he had were more than just positional. All i've seen him do is put his head down and try to pop someone. He took VERY wrong angles when trying to tackle someone and was less than stellar in coverage. Everyone is speaking like it's written in stone that Calvin Pryor will suddenly become a great player. I'm not there.
I have a lot of disagreements with your roster. To begin with, Carpenter will be the LG, NOT the RG. Colon will be lucky to make the team. So will Winters. You have no backup center. It hasn't been established that Dozier or Winters can handle center. Aboushi could very well be the starting RG, so the Jets could very easily keep James Brewer. As a matter of fact, unless he has a bad camp, I think it would be dumb to cut him since he can play either OT or OG. At WR I don't think Graham has made the team. He could easily be replaced by Owusu, Evans, or one of the other WRs. There's no guarantee the Jets will even keep a FB, but even if they do, I don't think Bohannon offers anything to make him a desirable player to keep. On D you don't keep a backup NT, which I don't think would ever happen. Barnes or Simon will stick. Wait, I see that you kept Barnes as RDT. The Jets basic lineup is a 3-4, not a 4-3. Even if it were, Barnes wouldn't be the starter. With Richardson missing the first 4 games, Talley or Bowen will probably stick rather than another LB (be it Babin, Pace or Jones). I'll be surprised if Taiwan Jones sticks. You have the safeties reversed. Pryor and Allen are Strong Safeties, not Free Safeties, and Gilchrist and Jarrett are the Free Safeties. I don't see any way that Eskridge makes the roster, especially not over Marcus Williams. Unless he totally flops in TC, I don't see Marcus Williams not making the roster. He looked very good last season.
Yeah its the same people that think Geno will become Dan Marino just because old man Gailey is on the job now. I'm looking at game rewind, Jets and Minnesota and first pass Geno throws is for an interception and touchdown return. Every pass after that is off line, high or wobbly.
Geno had a good game @ Minnesota after that first pass. Our defense was atrocious and the primary reason we lost that game. Ivorys fumble on the goal line also killed us.
That wasn't his fault he had no OL and no weapons, or so the homers live off these excuses, this year will be Gailey, never fails
I don't get the Gailey complaints I'm seeing on this board. He's an experienced, successful OC. Just because he wasn't a successful HC doesn't negate that fact. He has gotten every QB that played under him to raise their level of play. He adapts his offensive system to fit the abilities of his QBs and team. He has run a spread offense, which is better suited to Geno than the WCO. If Geno flops this season, it won't be because of Gailey. For anyone to blame Geno's failures on Gailey would just be stupid imo. I can't imagine another OC in the NFL I'd rather have for Geno and this team than Gailey. I like Chip Kelly's abilities a lot, but don't think he could or would do any better with Geno than Gailey. I also like Bruce Arians a LOT, but after his comments about spread offense QBs, he would be the totally wrong guy to have as the Jets OC or HC at this point in time. I also respect Tom Cousins and Mike McCarthy a LOT, but am not sure they'd be any better for trying to get some consistently good play out of Geno than Gailey. I also think the fact that Gailey has been a HC (even with his not being a good one), is a plus. I think he probably learned from his mistakes and can help Bowles avoid some of the pitfalls and mistakes he made. Who would you have hired as OC and why?
I'm curious...do you think that because of his skills/abilities or that Mac will keep him since he knew him with the Texans and traded for him? I remember Posey when he was in college. He was pretty good, but he hasn't done anything in the NFL. Part of me would like to see him develop and make the team, but if he does, he either has to develop return skills or the Jets would need to keep a 6th WR to return punts and KOs imo.
I just think that if the choice comes down to Posey, or a second year player who has little experience, Mac will go with the guy he's familiar with from Houston. I don't think he'd trade a draft pick for him; if he weren't somewhat bullish on the player.
Thanks, I agree. The wildcard for me is having a KOR. I can't remember however. Did Mac say that the final roster would be totally Bowles' choice or that they would decide together?
I like the thread, but we havent even had training camp yet and I could easily see some tweaking of the roster even before then. Too early IMO.
As much as I hope otherwise, I think that Idzik draft will go down as one of the worst in history for the amount of picks we had. Its still very early, but half that draft is/will be out the door this year. Amaro has been underwelming and I agree with you about Pryor, he looked really flawed in taking his angles and the coverage wasn't great, so what can he do?
