I love how everybody is justify his actions....i suppose if you ran a business and your employees smoked weed knowing it was against regulations, you'd all be fine with it, these guys play 16 games a season, Richardson is gone for a .25 of the season, but no big deal just ask Josh Girdon
Some pro athletes CHOOSE to be vegetarians. Cutting meat protein out of their diet is a disadvantage to their work out gains. It is their CHOICE. You know freedom, that thing the states was founded on.
I agree with you. Still the mental addiction must be powerful. Look at former Dolphin Ricky Williams. He was willing to just walk away from the NFL for a year or two at the height of his career so he could continue to use pot. Maybe that's why it got the name "Reefer Madness." LOL
It may not meet the medical definition of addictive, but how else would you explain people's unwillingness/inability to give it up when they know continued use is going to cost millions of dollars, embarrassment, and possibly jail time? I believe it is psychologically/mentally addictive and very difficult to stop. I think there are many times that psychological addictions, mental states, mindsets or whatever you want to call them are more powerful than strictly physiological states or issues. The brain is powerful and can trick our bodies.
Reading this threads makes me glad I ended up being a Jets fan. It's good to see how little tolerance there is for players hurting the team and breaking the rules, rather than trying to claim deflation is a weight loss method. In the end Sheldon screwed up, and it will likely cost him millions.
This is only a half truth. The reason he smoked so much was to deal with with social anxiety. This is the guy that left his helmet with visor on during interviews. I will not deny that over use of anything is habit forming. Hell i type this as i sip my third coffee of the day (yes caffeine is a drug, and performance enhancing, they should ban it). But it is hypocritical to prescribe opiate painkillers without question while banning pot, which long term affects are far less harmful. I repeat myself for the who knows how many times. My belief that the rules on pot are archaic do not justify Richardson's actions. Not agreeing with a law does not give you the right to break it, this also goes for the work place rules of a private business.
It's not like he murdered someone or cheated the game. Just some pot, not even steroids. 4 games is absurd, but he did the deed and will serve the time. At least #91 owns his wrongdoing
Stop trying to justify the actions of this loser. Every single player in the NFL knows what will happen if you get caught smoking pot. He broke the rules and got caught.
You're not serious are you? You're comparing dietary choices or vitamins or supplements or working out or practice or meditation of any one a 100 things that can effect performance to performance enhancing drugs? And you're throwing out the "freedom" red herring? Wow. Ok--we're done here. _
Hey--it's a free country--why can't we smoke weed on our jobs? You're not the boss of me--and the boss of me at my job shouldn't be able to deny me a blunt whenever I want either. You know, freedom of choice--this is Murika! That's what I'm hearing from some of these guys. Geez. _
You're right we are. the fact you actually would classify marijuana as "performance enhancing" shows your complete lack of knowledge on the subject.
So when the NBA players are talking about how weed helps their game because of it's effects BETWEEN games--that just shows YOUR complete lack of knowledge on the subject. There are different types of performance enhancing drugs--some during competition and some that help you get back to competition. PEDs are not one size fits all. _
There are disadvantages but there are also advantages. Notwithstanding the fact that the leagues have declared them impermissible regardless of what states have done. The Denver Nuggets can't smoke weed because they live in Colorado. _
I don't think anyone is arguing you should be smoking at work, just like you should not be drinking at work. But if you have a 9-5 Mon- Fri job choosing to smoke on a Saturday afternoon in your own home shouldn't be the concern of your workplace so long as 1) you have not signed a contract stating you would refrain from smoking (Richardson did and will now pay the price, as he should) 2)You are not representing your company at the time (standing on your front steps with a blunt wearing the company logo You were right the first time we are done here. I am a terrible person because i don't want the players to be barely able to walk from Monday to Thursday because of the effects an NFL game has on the body. What was i thinking when i even suggested something that would have allowed Brett Favre to actually get out of bed the day after a game when his body was in shambles late in his career. These aren't people they are numbers on jerseys purely there for our enjoyment and any sort of sympathy is wasted. Let's just keep feeding them vicodin (because heroine addiction isn't a real thing) and barely blinking an eye when they blow their brains at at 45 because they are physically and mentally in shambles. What was i thinking?
I didn't say anything about state laws governing the players that live in those states. If you believe weed is a performance enhancer then you must also agree that opiates are enhancers. Their effects do in fact help players BETWEEN games.
