The new rules are not that harsh. It takes multiple offenses to garner a 4 game suspension for pot. Also, even if pot is legalized, companies can still enforce their own policies. Companies enforce ethics, dress, etc. policies all the time. Every company I've worked for has had a zero-tolerance policy, meaning immediate termination if caught. The fact that he's been caught multiple times & hasn't smartened up after enrollment in the substance abuse program & multiple fines points to a problem with the person, not the league rules.
Wonder if part of the reason he was missing time during OTAs was because he had some kind of program he had to attend...or was just got high and forgot.

Smoking weed isn't "substance abuse". I see no difference between smoking weed and drinking, it is only a problem when done in extreme excess. yes they have the right to uphold their own standards but it is ridiculous that they continue to leave pot on the banned list while team doctors hand out far more addictive and dangerous drugs like candy. I will never disagree that these guys are idiots to get caught this many times, especially when the testing window is like 3 weeks a year, but it is a whole lot better for ones long term health to smoke a little post game then it is to throw back a few oxy.
