7'0 and 125 lbs. Awesome. I'm sure he's pretty good at flopping though like the other European bitches. He's gonna need to draw the occasional offensive foul cause offensively he's just gonna stand and take up space while Melo chucks it all game
I wouldnt kill Phil yet for this pick. Im sure there will be a surprise in the draft after the first 4 picks..but after Russell? Is there one guy that could change a franchise or just a bunch of really quality starters that will play good ball for years. Just watch the film on this guy. I hear comparisons to Fredrick Weis was it? Thats hilarious. Just watch the film on this guy and tell me if you have seen a sweeter stroke by a guy over 7 feet in this draft..or the previous 10. Who will cover him? Surely not another big. Shot blocking 7 footers who shoot like this? This guys has the release of a guard. Before going crazy on him...just watch the film on him. That is a sweet stroke. Will it pan out or do you end up with a Novack type? No clue. I do not think it will take him 2 years to help this team..not with that shot.
and all this talk about the Knicks trading down and getting a "defensive center". Keep hearing about Towns and several others as being defensive centers that dominate. What the f does that mean and since when did the NBA become a draft magnet for defensive centers. Who the hell takes a defensive center with the first 10 picks in the draft. What team has dominated with a defensive high draft pick.
Here's the problem in a nutshell - the Knicks are deep deep in the abyss of crappyness. One draft pick was never going to fix the problem. Even Towns wouldn't have fixed the problem. The only way it could have made a difference were if Michael Jordan or LeBron James was available. Nobody from picks 4 through 60 was going to be a difference maker. I like that Phil went against the grain and made a ballsy move. He knows basketball and he knows how to fit this kid in. We'll see how things work out in 2 years, which is the same scenario we would have had with any other pick This draft was never going to save the knicks
What does that mean? The warriors are are a guard driven team, but what other successful teams are to where you can argue the guards are more important than the other positions? Cavs? No. Spurs? No. Clippers? No. That's a fallacious position that is exaggerating the Warriors success and projecting that onto the entire league. It's a shooters driven league now. What position those shots come from is irrelevant.
I think Phil's biggest mistake was re-signing Carmelo. Esp. if you're trying to create a team based offense.
Spurs? Tony Parker - great player - injured in the playoffs Clippers? Chris Paul? He was the best player for that team this post-season. Carried that team past the Spurs. Thunder? Durant can't win w/out Westbrook and Westbrook can't win w/out Durant. Grizzles? Conley, one of the more underrated players in this league John Wall stays healthy for the Wizards and they beat the Hawks and maybe even the Cavs. NBA for example is full of great guards, every team that's good in the West, you know what they have in common? A good guard. Cavs are the exception. Only stretch 4 that truly made a difference in this league is Dirk. Care to name others? if the Cavs had Irving, the Cavs prob win the title. it is a guard driven league
You can talk about the Knicks and their bad luck which I will agree with. But with the top 3 players off the board and Knicks picking 4th they had to take the Euro who was the only one left that is a potential building block.
Mudiay has John Wall / Derrick Rose potential w/ a higher floor Winslow has James Harden like potential w/ a higher floor I disagree w/ your assessment. He's got amazing potential, but then again just like Mariota, potential can get you in trouble.
I hate the pick but I agree with this assessment. Its first and foremost a shooters league now. Just because GS does it with guards doesn't mean its exclusively a guards league. That's why I wanted Winslow. For his defense, toughness & versatility on shutting down those shooters from other teams. He also came on really strong late offensively at Duke, suggesting to me that he is on an upward trend and will get better and better. I think he will do great in Miami.
On Porz (before the draft): http://sports.yahoo.com/news/meet-t...-the-flops-who-came-before-him-193427860.html I think this'll work out well for the team, and we got Grant which is the next best thing to Mudiay. Cleanthony hopefully will step up next season and now lets see if we get any good free agents Next season will be a lot better
You can't name me many stretch 4s that have the impact of the Gs and their shooting abilities. Dirk is the only one that sticks out. It is a guard driven league first and foremost, stretch 4s are only role players to create spacing.
If you have a 4 (or 5, or 3) that shoots just as good as these guards WTF difference does it matter where they play? Just because there are less 4s that can shoot like some of these guards out there doesn't mean they are less impactful offensively if you can find one. In fact theres an argument to be made that high shooting percentage from deep from a 7' footer is better for the team than from a 6' footer. Either way once the basket goes in it doesn't matter who it came from it counts the same in the box score Rip this Latvian cause he's a rail and not ready at all for the NBA - not because of the position he plays.
The league is dominated by great guards. Like I said, you don't see many big men shooters having the same impact as the guards you see now. There's only 1 or 2 stretch 4s that are great in this league and that's Dirk and that's Bosh. You need a great G to win in this league. Unless you have a Lebron on your team and even so, they were at their best w/ Irving on the floor too. You ask me who had the better impact on the court - Kevin Love or Kyrie Irving? My point is in regards to drafting the Latvian vs drafting someone like Winslow or Mudiay, especially Mudiay who has great defensive potential in the NBA and the ability to score. Knicks should've taken one of those 2. Now watch the Knicks get raped by every PG in the league - and every contending team has a great G. The Latvian, to be honest - won't have the impact of a Mudiay or Winslow.
Some of you are bashing the pick but have no clue what Porzingis is. Dude is no soft euro and he is ready for primetime. He speaks really well and is a tough baller. He just is super skinny and comes from a foreign league so no one here wants to give him a chance. Just like the other great Euro's in the game...Everyone agreed this guy had incredible potential. Btw, ESPN is complete horseshit...Wow, that is some serious hatred on the Knicks. LOL at that kid crying. As for Winslow (FUCK HIM) i dont like his game...I liked Manny Mudiay as the other option...But both Manny and Winslow dropped to #7 and #10. These GM's wouldnt pass up these guys if they were so amazing. Not to mention Orlando was salivating at Kristaps, they took the Euro with the next pick. I believe...
