See, this one didn't bother me as much because going into that game, I didn't think we had a chance against an Elway-led Broncos team. Blowing the lead DID suck though

The AFC championship against Pittsburgh beats out the 2005 playoff loss to Pittsburgh for me. Had plans to watch the Jets live at the super bowl after we won the AFC ship but we failed to show up until the 2nd half. How we could come out so flat is still mind blowing. After the game we all knew it was going to be nearly impossible to return for a 3rd straight year but the downfall we went on was shocking. The circus that ensued makes it even harder looking back at this game. It's been miserable.
Esiason threw a God Awful INT in the 4th quarter when we were up 24-14 and driving that led to that loss...brutal
We drove right down the field on them routinely in the first half if I remember correctly Curtis Martin was near a hundred yards before halftime. Then after jamming the ball down their throats into the red zone the infamous Paul Hackett calls a half back option which Jordan throws into double coverage. One of the most disappointing games I've ever been at.
This pales in comparison to the train wrecks listed above, but week 2 last year against GB. Still disturbed by Sudfeld's statue imitation. Another one that comes to mind is a game years ago against the Lions--we're winning and the RB for the lions fumbles into the endzone. On the TV you just see the ball laying there. I'm praying like hell a Jet lands on it but no, Lion O-lineman falls on it--TD--we lose. Another is going back a ways--anyone remember Bobby Jones from Texaco University? He was traded to the Browns and made a spectacular TD catch against us to win the game. Think it was 14-7. I can still see the slide.
-The 1998 Championship Game where the Jets had a 10-0 lead. -The 2009 Championship Game where the Jets had a 17-6 lead. -The 2010 Championship Game where the Jets instantly trailed 24-0. All hurt really bad, but overall, were great Jets seasons. -The 2011 Giants loss was a killer too. Ended the Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez Eras if you really think about it. All downhill after that 99 yard Giants TD.
Losing those four AFC Championship games hurt...but nothing felt worse to me than the 1986 divisional 2ot loss to Cleveland...it was 20-10 with 5 mins to go and then ......ughhh...I don't even want to talk about it
All of the above previously mentioned. One game I didn't see mentioned was 1991 MNF game against Bears in Chicago. Blair Thomas fumbles late in the 4th quarter and lets Bears tie game. In overtime, 100 year old Pat Leahy, still kicking for the jets, misses a short FG which would have won it. Leahy had missed another short FG earlier in the game and that year was 17th and his last on the jets. It didn't help that Bruce Coslet was not smart enough to get the ball in the middle of the field before Leahy kicked it--same error Herman Edwards made with Doug Brien in Pittsburgh in 2004.
There are a lot, sadly. I'm with you on this one though. I still remember Charlie Steiner saying, "The Jets are going to the AFC Championship" when they took the late 4th quarter lead. What a kick in the nuts that game was.
I tell everyone I know that this was the play that broke the camels back.. Being there in person was heartbreaking..
The ones I've been alive for that hurt the most were 98 (first REAL loss as I was growing up), and both Pitt games 05 and 2010
If that's supposed to be the fake spike, it isn't. He takes the snap from under center and throws it. I see no fake spike.
Title game in 2010 hurts the most because it was a game we could've won and should've won. Pittsburgh wasn't better than us that year. The year before in Indy and Denver in 98 hurt but we weren't given much of a chance so the letdown wasn't as huge. Personally I think the packers would've smoked us in the super bowl but still..that 2010 season should've been longer!
That's the play. Marino motioned for the spike before he bent under center. The loss to the Browns in '87 was the low point for me.
