Cant even watch this team right now. Losing is one thing but to just go down 1-2-3 in what seems like every inning is a waste of time. A big shame really cause the pitching will still be great and Matz will only add to that in all likelyhood. But until this team can average atleast 4 runs a game this season is doomed. Almost seems like the offense is complacent once they grab a lead. Up 2-1 tonight and they think Niese and the pen is gonna be the one to hold that lead? Get real. Also can TC stop with the lefty-lefty bullshit. Its clear non of our current lefties are specialists like Blevins is. Try something new. Its not even like he's going by the numbers either cause all out lefties have better numbers against righty batters. Maddening.
Mets got 2 hits so far. SA should be proud of the lineup he's fielding. He's keeping costs down by not paying for real talent by signing mediocre talent. Look for the Mets to be out of it by Aug. and Citi Field becoming a ghost town by the end of Aug.
Instead of taking the car to get looked at as soon as the check engine light came on they ignored the warning signs and now the problems seems too big to fix. We as fans want the GM/Ownership to show some action, but what realistically can they do now? They blew it, and it started in the offseason. Their inaction seems appropriate. The big offseason get was Cuddyer who we gave up a first round pick for, who looks & plays older than his age.
Got a chance to watch Dodgers/Cubs tonight. How about the season Justin Turner is having. To think they let him go because he "partied too much"..not to say if he was playing here he would be putting up the same numbers, obviously hitting in the Dodgers lineup is a little different than hitting in ours, but seeing him having this type of season is proof that average ball players can do better when they are hitting around better players. Its unreal how every single player in our lineup right now is in a slump.
This is what happens when you only draft pitching in the high rounds year after year. They're just now starting to understand that you need to hit in order to win consistenly. I don't know why they don't trade with the Cubs unless Alderson is still in his something for nothing trade mode.
See, the thing is Sandy has only really drafted hitters in the high rounds. We are still waiting to see what happens with them (Dominic Smith, Brandon Nimmo, Michael Conforto). However, these guys won't be ready to even DEBUT in the majors for 2-4 years. All our great starting pitching (deGrom, Harvey, Matz soon enough) was brought into the organization by Minaya. How ironic that us fans would give anything to overpay a guy that at least has some semblance of offensive output? Noah and Wheeler Alderson brought over through trade except Wheeler has no control and won't be back to "form" until 2 years from now. Travis Darnaud is just injury prone. He hasn't played a full season I don't think in the last 5 years. He's 26 now. Alderson has completely whiffed in free agency with Granderson and especially Cuddyer. The idea was that we would have all this great pitching and the young guys like Lagares, Flores, Herrera, and Darnaud would be ready to perform average enough at the major league level to compete for at LEAST a wildcard. They deceived us into thinking these young guys were ready to anchor a lineup with nothing but average veterans themselves. As far as I'm concerned, David Wright's career is over. That leaves us with Murphy and Duda as the only guys that I'm somewhat hopeful about. Duda has zero protection in the lineup and has been in an awful slump, along with the rest of the guys of course. And even worse? Murphy and Duda are free agents after this season. You know the Wilpons aren't gonna pony up cash for these guys when they are really just average to maybe above average. And why would they even want to stay on a team like this?
Don't even get me started on Justin Turner. The Mets scoffed at him and felt they didn't need his talent. In 2011 after playing in 117 games, he hit .260 with a .334 OBP with 30 doubles 51 RBI and a K/BB ratio of 59/39 He wasn't as productive in the 2 years after but also had less playing time. No guarantee he would be hitting like he is hitting now for the Dodgers with CA being his hometown and all, but he is a utility guy/starter we could use at 3rd base now instead of the Little League World Series legend Ruben Tejada.
I thought it was a good sign when Sandy signed Cuddyer and was willing to give up the 1st round pick. For a change he was thinking about the present not the future. Cuddyer was supposed to give them a consistent bat in the lineup so they could avoid team slumps. Instead he's gone down to the level of the other players.
I love Gary Cohen saying that Sandy has tried to make a deal but he couldn't. And Ron Darling then saying forget about getting a player externally. Other teams are making trades so why not Sandy. Why is it so impossible.
FOX reporting that Matz has been called up. No official word from the Mets though. Shocker. Even when they are handed an opportunity to deflect attention away from our offense they dont take it.
Matz is ready but bringing him up is just going to hurt his demeanor when he will have no defense behind him and no offense to support him. Maybe now we can dump Colon or something. Niese sucks too though but he is a lefty
You are right I didn't realize this. His performances have been buried by an anemic offense. Trade him for Zobrist
I think that Zobrist is in the last year of his deal with the A's so Niese has more value than him. But if the Mets can get him to sign an extension than great. But ok eventually they will win a game. And start scoring runs. But not on a regular basis as long as they keep using minor league bats. This is not Sandy's development league this is MLB. He should be the farm director not the GM.
