This winter...that was the case. Just started taking a look at long range stuff and there are two schools of thought.

    1. That a repeat of last winter is likely except (this part is my thinking) an adjustment in the actual storm track to the south OR west. Again...have the same areas in back to back winters been hit hard? Kind of....but rarely....if ever does a state like Massachusetts get back to back winters like the one they experienced. That is not science. You just read about these warnings like...get ready! Its going to be bad again....and it's not.

    2. Now this is an interesting theory depending on the strength off El Nino....a very warm pattern for the east with major storms affecting the west coast. Hmmmm...who needs the rain? The warm pattern would actually begin towards the start of 2016.

Whether it's this coming year or next....that pattern will occur. Droughts like the one California is experiencing have a way of correcting themselves. Mother nature seems to just do that. Just look at Texas and if abyz was still around he would tell you....Texas was begging for rain and now they are screaming no mas. When California gets their rain (or mountain snows which they rely on for water) we in the east will be snow less for the most part. This year? Or next winter.

Let me just explain why if California gets their rain or snow...we get warmth and little snow. When the trough sets up that far west....and storms hit California. ..the storm track usually gives western states...Utah..Colorado then the Midwest and into the great lakes...leaving us east of the storm track....the warm side. Noreasters are always out over the Atlantic so we are to the west of the storm track. West of track equals cold for us...east of storm track means warmer than normal. Hope that makes sense.

    Jay,

Sort of slightly off topic, but have you seen the Vice episodes on climate change in the polar caps? What do you think about that if so?

Edge I have not seen it at all. Will do a quick search now.

Ok edge...wow. You just turned me on to something. When did that program start? How did I miss that. I'm an hbo doc nut and never saw this. Will watch the episode you are talking about. Thanks so much. (By the way ...if you want to watch a wild wild story...watch jinxed....6 parts I believe. Incredible)

Before I watch it I have to admit to a prejudice concerning man made global warming...IF THAT'S the road they go down. I have no idea if it's true...false...something inbetween. The only part of weather I follow is history and the history of this planet which has had some HUGE swings in climate. I put that out there just so I don't sound like a frigging hypocrite. But I'm very open bud...will watch it in the next 24 hours. What's your thoughts?

It's very interesting to me to consider the effects of the sea level rising, and how that will displace so many people, particularly in poorer areas. I'm traditionally right leaning politically, but on this topic I think the right is preaching political doctrine in denying that changes are occurring. I also believe people are too caught up in whether it's man made or not... it's sort of missing the forest through the trees.

I'm interested in what real solutions can be brought forth to prevent the sort of disasters that could stem from this. I wonder if there's a legitimate chance of humans even being able to do anything about this, or if perhaps it's time to begin looking at contingency planning? Overall, scary stuff.

EDIT: Also, I think VICE is in its 3rd season. It follows things going on throughout the world. It's really a great show if you get a chance to watch through it all.

The last episode of the 1st season is a really good one. I'm sure you heard about Dennis Rodman going to North Korea, and the hoopla that brought along. But that episode is the actual premise of Rodman going there, and you can witness what happened there in that episode. Really interesting stuff.

Saw it last night. We are on the same page edge. To say nothing is happening would be ridiculous. Stupid and naive. Now....drum roll...why. That would take pages of me pretending to know more then I do. History tells me that shifts like this over thousands and thousands of years are common. This common? Not sure

I too lean right...but let's face it. Two birds one stone. Want to stop reliance on fossil fuel to help the environment? I'm all in for other reasons too. Just be green...he'll yeah. Is that the reason for the meltdown there and Alaska winters being so above normal? I don't know the answer but if taking steps to cover thy ass? All good. Is there a man made actual solution? No way...only mother nature can do that and I put all my money on that happening over the next 50 to 100 years.

Will say this....that is some scary stuff. Also watched several other ones with child suicide bombers and the elections in the Philippines. Great show. Was hidden in series and not documentaries. Good find sir. Will watch the Rodman one tonite.

Edge. Watched the North Korea episode with Rodman. I mean....wow. How bizarre was that? Howabout when they went into the computer room and all the people just staring at the screens pretending they had Internet. Or the empty food and department store loaded with merchandise but no customers. Totally staged. Better yet the hysterical crying when their leader shows up or dies. How he invented synchronized swimming for people and dolphins.

You wonder how much the public actually believes. Incredible.

It's bizarre man! It's amazing that a society like that can survive for as long as it has. With the civil rights abuse that takes place there, it really makes you wonder. Further, how in the world are they able to train people to perform nuclear r&d? I can't wrap my head around it. It's as foreign an idea to me as infinity.

The buses bringing the heroes that helped make the bomb and deploy the test coming back to the hotel with a parade...there had to be 30 buses. When they waited for him to enter....12000 and dead silence. He enters and they start chanting live 10000 years! Crying. Real tears. Decades of brainwashing. I mean...shocked. I was just shocked.

There's some other really good documentaries and books covering North Korea. I don't have the name of them off the top of my head but I'll see if I can find out when I get home.

One in particular I remember is a documentary where a film crew snuck into North Korea with an eye doctor and his team. The eye doctor goes into the country once a year to perform mass surgeries for the population who otherwise has no access to those sort of medical procedures. The film crew was disguising their intent as filming strictly for medical research purposes.

Towards the end of the documentary, they've got a room full of North Koreans who are removing their bandages, and either seeing for the first time ever, or seeing for the first time again in a very long time. They all proceed directly to a giant painting of the dear leader hung on the wall and thank the dear leader profusely for returning their vision to them. Madness. Sheer madness.

EDIT: Also if you want some laughs, here's the official North Korean reddit propaganda page:
