Man we are back at it again...Another Revis situation is going to come up and it is going to be a huge annoyance to deal with. Trying to gauge the jets fan pulse on this So with Leonard on the team now (still rookie obviously) and a strong defense surrounding us. If we HAD TO give a Suh type deal or something close to it to one of our guys, who would it be? OPTIONS Mo Wilkerson? The stiuation: We resign Wilkerson to Suh type deal and we either trade or let Shelden go down the line in FA Shelden Richardson? The situation: We trade or let Wilkerson go in FA and look to keep Shelden to a longterm Suh type deal Keep Both...Mike Maccagnan finds a way to get shit done! The situation: Find a way to keep both guys at mega 'Suh' type deals...Probably means guys like D'Brick and other key cogs will be pushed off the team
The issue will largely resolve itself. If Mo and Sheldon have great All-Pro type years we're screwed in a good way. If they don't, well nobody will be talking about Suh money next year. One way or the other time is on the Jets side in this situation as long as they have the patience to let it be.
Impossible to pick one really, I don't think one is better than the other, it's a year to year thing. It's like trying to decide between A-Rod and Luck. Anyway, I'd say option #2. Keep Sheldon and trade Mo. If we really had to.
Sheldon can play RB as well. Players like Deion Sanders who play both sides of the ball always deserve more money. But Suh money is just as crazy as Haynesworth money. Edit: Let's just pay Sheldon in Nickle bags.
Having too many great players is a good problem to have and if Macc needs to trade one or two out it comes down to how well Macc can replace them in the draft. Picking up Williams looks pretty good on paper.
The two together look great but I wonder is there a possibility that if you split them up then both regress? Kinda like the sum of the whole is greater then the individual parts?
Williams might be better than either of them so it's hard to say. Mo was an end of the 1st round guy from a college that doesn't usually produce 1st rounders. Sheldon was a top 10 guy who fell a bit to the Jets and we got lucky there. Williams was a top 2 or 3 pick in this draft and we just got lucky that we had a bunch of bad teams picking in front of us. The Titans are going to be slitting their wrists in a few years over Mariota and Williams.
I simply have a problem spending $20 million on any position that isn't a Qb. This will become less and less of an issue over time, though, as the cap increases and salaries correspondingly go up. That said, I think Miami overpaid and I wouldn't want to make the same mistake. Br4d is right, though. We have time. Enjoying the insanity of Wilk, Richardson, Williams and Snacks all on the same team for a year should be a priority if you're a Jets fan. It won't last long.
WOW, really?!?! Muhammad Wilkerson is clearly better than Sheldon Richardson! Maybe one day Richardson will reach Mo Wilk's level, he's not too far behind. But for anyone to call Richardson the better player right now is absurd. I guess people tend to gravitate toward the "latest and greatest", and forget the "old" standbys. Wilkerson has been so dominant for so long now that it's become "boring" and predictable I guess.
Yeah but its nice when a division rival pays a DT & a mediocre QB $36M per year combined or 25% of the 2015 NFL salary cap.
Hopefully our new scouting department can find replacements so we have to give every player 15mil. ...trade Mo.
The key factor in this is Williams, if he's the dominant force they think he will be then it won't matter which one we keep. If I had to choose 1 though I'd have to go with Richardson.
That part of it is def beneficial. But its a vicious circle cause eventually it comes down to us overpaying a player or losing him if we dont. Plus you always have to worry about that dumb GM outbidding you.
Neither, why even talk about it. This is what the franchise tag was designed for. The facts are the Jets would save a lot of money and cap space by making both play out their contracts and then by using the franchise tag . Make Mo play this year and franchise him for two years. Make Richardson play his contract, use fifth year option. That gets you three years from now. Then sign Wilkerson of let him go and franchise tag Richardson a couple times. You save money and retain both for 3 to 5 years. By then even Suh might not be making that much. Maybe Miami will prove just like Washington did, you don't pay D-linemen that much money. They don't throw the BALL!
Let’s face it, Idzik was a moron and Woody doesn't know football. We could have signed Revis for around $60-$65 million for five years last season. If we just made it guaranteed. We waited and now we pay him $16M a year instead of $12.5. Plus he helped the Pats get another ring. Let’s see how our new GM deals with re-signing players. Or better yet in NOT resigning players but using the tools he has available.
