33, but is there any way we could get this guy in here to stop up the mess that is our Guards? Probably not, but it would be nice.

We're too close to the cap to even make an offer, he's been looking for a raise too. Not to mention if we did this it would send Mo Wilk into an all time temper tantrum. We already have enough 30+ year olds we're depending on, there's no way you do this unless you're absolutely certain you can go deep in the playoffs this year (with what QB?). It would be a very short sighted move but the roster as a whole is pretty short sighted.

I said like 4 different things, which point specifically do you disagree with?

The Eagles have released G Evan Mathis.

The Jets could use depth at OL

Would you like to see Evan wear a Jets
Uniform next season or pass up on him?

Solid player but too old, too expensive. He was set to make almost 6 mil. this year and he kept complaining about a new contract. Personally I like the guards we have, let's focus on re-signing Mo now.

Jets released a lineman like minutes after this was announced lol. He's kinda old, but would be a major impact for our RB's esp. if we have any trouble moving the ball through the air. But this would def. tick Mo' off and probably lead to him waiting to get tagged (which i'm sure he doesn't want to happen) next off season.

Is he better than Willie Colon?

Sorry if this was sarcasm and I missed it but he's one of the best guards in football. He's regarded as the best behind Marshal Yanda, but he's getting up there in years. Miles ahead of Colon.

Must consider signing him if Qvale, Dozier, and the rookie are not ready--2 year deal with this 1 guaranteed. He most likely will get better offers than what the NYJ can put together.

Yes, and apparently, the Jets might be interested according to the Star Ledger.

What you guys think? Should the Jets pursue? We still have like $4 million in cap space (don't know the exact number).

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000496672/article/evan-mathis-released-by-philadelphia-eagles

After 15 months of contract tension, the Philadelphia Eagles are cutting ties with veteran guard Evan Mathis.

The team released the two-time Pro Bowl selection on Thursday, the Eagles announced.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport first reported the news.
Seeking a new contract, Mathis was first placed on the trade block back in March of 2014. The Eaglesshopped him around the league again in March and April, leading up to the 2015 NFL Draft.

Although Mathis has graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 1 guard over the past three seasons, coach Chip Kelly revealed in early May that the eminently available 11-year veteran attracted no tangible trade interestfrom other teams.

"We have never had an offer for Evan so there's nothing to take," Kelly explained. "Evan's been available to trade for two years now and we've never had an offer for him. And that's through their agent and him. They've asked us if he can renegotiate a contract and see what he can get and we've obliged him with that, but we've never had an offer on him."

The Eagles recently pulled an offer off the table that would have increased Mathis' base salary from $5.5 million to $6.5 million, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported early this week.

Connecting the dots, that would appear to have been the impetus behind Mathis' release.

The leading in-house candidate to replace Mathis is Matt Tobin, who filled in when the starter was sidelined with a knee injury last season.

Mathis will now test his value on the open market, an opportunity he has sought for over a year now.

Even at the relatively advanced football age of 33, Mathis shouldn't lack for suitors. He was an excellent fit in the Eagles' scheme that uses extensive zone blocking, but won't be viewed as a mauler by teams that run a power ground attack.

The Broncos, Seahawks, Dolphins, Saints and Falcons are among the teams that match up with Mathis' skill set.

It will be interesting to see if Mathis lands a contract richer than the one Kelly was offering to stay in Philadelphia.

He would be a good signing if we had a QB in place and needed him for a limited window but he's 34 and he'll probably be too old by the time we do find any legit answer at QB. He'll cost too much for our situation

Guy has Broncos written all over him. I'd be shocked if he went anywhere else honestly.
