Has anybody read Hugh Laurie's book "The Gun Seller" ? I love James Bond and I was always a fan of Laurie (pre House days) and figured the two are a good combo. I was debating buying it today at the bookstore but decided I would see if anyone has read it.
Been awhile since this has been bumped, thought it might be worth it to see if anyone has an recommendations for the summer.
As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner The Devil All the Time by Donald Ray Pollack H.P Lovecraft (The Horror at Red Hook is my personal favorite.) Alfred Hitchcock: A Life in Darkness and Light by Patrick Mcgilligan If you want action/scifi, I like the Gaunt's Ghost series's of books by Dan Abnett. Also buy this book if you haven't already, pussy: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/08...17145&creative=399373&creativeASIN=0806535229
Wow how did I miss this thread? I'll start with some of my favorites: My top book of all time: Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield. Fictionalized account of the Battle of the 300 at Thermopylae. Outstanding. First 20 pages are slow but then it's amazing. Great summer read- Winds of War and War and Remembrance by Herman Wouk. The story of WWII told in an historically fictionalized account. 1800 pages, off the charts good. East of Eden by John Steinbeck. Incredible writing. Nice short WWII novel City of Thieves by David Benioff. I gotta get out my list. I'm forgetting a bunch off the top of my head. I love historical fiction. _
Just picked up Fear and Loathing at Rolling Stone...from the library. Sandwiched in between re-reads of the Black book of Communism, and Witness.
No Country For Old Men by Cormac McCarthy. The book was great -McCarthy has an odd writing style- and the film did it fine justice. _
Oh wow forgot this one- best book I've read in the last 5 years: Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann. _
+1 on The Killer Angels and Enemy at the Gates. Good historical fictional account of Enemy at the Gates is a novel called War of the Rats by David Robbins about Vasily Zaytsev. _
East of Eden was a strange book but good. I'm not sure it was great. I like Of Mice and Men and Grapes of Wrath better. Best books I have read recently : Mistborn trilogy by Sanderson All You Need is Kill Starship Troopers The Outsiders is a book you have to read if you haven't. Written by a 16 year old. As I saw someone else post on the internet, when I was 16, I was masturbating and playing pokemon and the author of The Outsiders was writting an all time great novel.
Holy shit was just going to post that. I'm not a real sci fi fan but I picked it up when I read they were making it into a movie. Great concept, great story, nice and short. _
Yeah, I wanted to see the movie but never did. Was glad I didn't. I'm not sure if the movie kept the same ending, but I'm guessing it did and it would have ruined a pretty good book to know what happens.
