actually, you are comparing geno to brady.... Geno has sucked for 2 years and fitz is a journeyman who has had moderate success. we can certainly be a playoff team if our QB play doesnt completely suck and the oline does a 180 from last year. but even then talk of the division or contending is kind of out there sometimes qbs suprise people, but more often guys who suck and are the worst starter for 2 years continue to suck
The point is that you don't know beforehand what you have or don't have, it doesn't matter if it's a young Brady, Russell Wilson, Bridgewater, Bortles, Cassel, whoever. You just don't know. With Peyton Manning you might, because you will get a lot of production out of him no matter what. You also know with Brian Hoyer, he's gonna suck. I don't think Geno is there yet. We don't know for sure. He's shown flashes, he's still young, and he didn't get much help from the guys around him the past few years. He's older now, he's in a way better offense. Let's see what happens this year. If he doesn't take the next step this year he's done, but he deserves at least 1 more season.
The results say he has not played well. Opinions going forward, of those that matter, seem to have some optimism
What is it they say... the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result? i dont expect different results. opinions on the other hand change all the time.
That's correct to a degree but you can't fix stupid. You don't need a high score to be productive and successful. You do need game smarts, the ability to see the field pre and post snap and most importantly the ability to comprehend what you see and translate that into action that makes for a positive play or at the very least a play that doesn't result in a turn over. geNO has yet to show this ability to connect the synapses and its unclear if he'll ever get it. Gailey can change the scheme and play types all he wants but if the QB gets happy feet or hot potato arm the scheme doesn't much matter. Repetition and the ability to not make the same mistakes can transform a lower score QB to success. Repetition hasn't worked yet with geNO. I don't think it take long for the CS to see if this off-season's OTA's and TC show his ability to not make the same mistakes. My gut says they go with geNO through the bye week. At that stage he will have either transformed himself into a good QB or he'll be on the bench and on his way out with Fitz being the starter. Either way it lets Petty sit, watch, learn and grow. They haven't had a QB that was able to do that in a while.
I don't think Geno's problem is intelligence. I think his problems stem from reaction time and ability to process under pressure. He scored 2 lower than Chad Pennington on the Wonderlic and 1 higher than Brett Favre. That's not idiot territory.
We are saying the same thing. I was referring to his game smarts not overall intelligence. He hasn't shown any game smarts (the ability to read and take positive action.. his synapses aren't working at game speed) but has shown the penchant for turning the ball over, for getting happy feet, hot potato arm etc.
