I find your point interesting, because I feel like Mo is the type of guy who would take a fair contract to stay here. I'm not saying he's gonna take some big cut, but let's say, for arguments sake, the raiders are offering 13 a year and the jets 12, I can see him staying here instead of starting over, away from his family, in an unfamiliar place.

That's a big part of the problem. Say the Jets are offering him $10 million a year. Every agent is going to drill into his head that he can get significantly more on the open market.

It's not as cut and dry as oh they're offering me a couple million less but I want to stay local. I also know that he's 25 years old. It's not like we're dealing with. 30, 31 year old player that could have children as old as 10 years old not wanting to move schools. I don't know about his family but I know a 3 year old doesn't know the difference whereas a 25 year old ball player can definitely see the different is $3 million a year or even $1.5 million a year. That's why Rivers is in such a sticky spot because he has 27 children.

you literally just proved my point.

Your second sentence is irrelevant to this conversation.

Fair within reason. If he was willing to be "fair" he'd be extended already. He wants to get paid and I don't blame him.

If it's the difference of a mil and changing coasts he' probably stay yes.

I may be stating the obvious but we just handed out $36mm in contracts to free agents from other teams and Harris and now we have the 5th LEAST amount of cap space in the NFL. Any deal from us would have to be back end loaded - why would a team like the jaguars with $36mm in cap space this year or the Raiders with $21mm only be able to offer $1-2 more than us?

It's a hypothetical question. Also next year can technically not matter since we can tag him

    Touché

Mo holding out would be a good business move for him. The Jets D is severely downgraded with #96 off the field. It puts the team in a tough bind comparable to when Revis held out.

Glad Mo has chose to put his team/playing football first over getting paid.

I know what you're saying, but I don't care what type of rationale you try to use. If you're a multi-millionaire and you aren't set for life, you're an idiot. Plain and simple. Maybe Wilkerson isn't dumb.

Lol. Ok...so using your numbers, 22% of NFL players aren't retarded then.

"Please, these guys aren't stupid" - Well...if you're a multi-millionaire and you aren't set for life, then yes, you are stupid. Very stupid.

Who says Wilkerson has no money after he retires? He could have easily banked away 15 million (conservative number) and be earning a guaranteed 3% interest. He could be pulling in 450K a year and not ever touch his 15 million. (Hypothetical)

I like how you start off with "78% of NFL players go broke or are under financial duress after leaving the NFL" and then end with "these guys aren't stupid". Lmfao. Biggest contradiction ever.

These players aren't stupid in the sense that they understand that all they have is football and once that's over there's nothing more they're going to be able to do to earn money.

Of course you missed the point of what I was saying because you're so hung up on players being so "stupid." What ghetto were you raised in that you came out of as both a star athlete and an investment banker? The reality is that most 25 year old players realize this is it for them and they need to make as much money as possible in ten years before they have no salary anymore.

You're ignorant in automatically acting like you'd manage your money perfectly to live the upscale life you've created for yourself and your family and manage it until your 65 years old.

Luckily no one will give a moron like you, who can't read into the context of what's being said, millions of dollars.

I "missed your point" because it was stupid and not much of a point at all.

Who cares if they can't do anything after football to earn money? They don't need to because they're set for life. Maybe Wilkerson isn't an idiot like you seem to believe.

If you're a multi-millionaire and aren't set for life, you're ignorant. There's absolutely no way around it.

I'm 29, bought a house when I was 22 and have no mortgage. So I know a little bit about managing money. It's not rocket science. Well, maybe for someone like you.

My point is that these guys DON'T know about money management thus meaning they NEED to make as much money as possible while they're in the league.

You're heads too far up your own ass to actually read the discussion. Get off your high horse this thread isn't about you and your supposed worldly purchases.

Maybe Wilkerson DOES know how to manage his money and would rather take 1.5 mil less a year and play for a team he wants to. You know him personally now? Cool, can you get me his autograph on a football?

"You're heads too far up..." Aka "You are heads too far up". Way to make sense, bro.

Greaaaaaaat. Richardson saying that Mo should be the next 100 million dollar man. Doubt we are going to be able to resign Richardson when he says what he wants.

Of course players should get paid fairly, for some staying close to home may be worth $1M a year less, that is their choice.
But the rest of your post, that is bad money management, nothing more, nothing less. They know going in what the average career length of an NFL player is, going broke is their own fault.
