That is a tough case to make. I think Sheldon right now is our best DE but that's him coming off his best year and Mo having a "poor" season. It's a year to year thing with these two.
Some people just have a hardon for trading Mo and will use any possible argument to rationalize it. Like sack totals. Some people will say that Mo doesn't warrant a big contract because he doesn't have double digit sacks for 2014, yet Sheldon is better than him and has never recorded double digit sacks, while Mo has (2013) and also has been voted all pro (2013).
That's a silly hypothesis. The money wasn't the reason it didn't work out in Tampa, all his money there was non-guaranteed...it didn't work in Tampa cause they had the best man corner in the world in a zone system. The Pats didn't get the most out of him cause they paid him $12 million, it was because Bill knew how to use him.
That's what it seems like to me, a way for fans to justify trading /not re-signing Mo. Some players like Revis deserved that, shame fans turn on Mo this quickly w/out knowing the details. I don't think Sheldon is better right now, even so you can't make an argument for it. Truly a shame that tends to happen a lot in Jets history.
Watching the bottom line on the salary cap to avoid cap hell does not mean that I have a hard on to trade anyone. After living through the Tanny era I do not want to overpay anyone any more than I want to watch valuable players walk with us getting nothing in return.
Play coy about it all you want but you have been over the line of bashing the guy plenty of times this offseason and you know it
Football is a business, managing the cap well enough to build a championship team is much more difficult than it seems. As soon as you figure a guy cares about the money more than the team you should find another sucker willing to trade for him. When you get too attached to a guy just because he wears a Jet uniform it is easy to lose the bigger picture.
LOL from one side of your mouth you say the NFL is a business and then from the other side of your mouth you say that "As soon as you figure a guy cares about the money more than the team you should find another sucker willing to trade for him." Nice double standard. Here's a news flash for you, guy: every single one of them cares more about the money than the team. The fact that you think it's fine to dump the guy because he's interested in getting paid, well maybe you don't understand the business aspect of football as much as you try to say you do.
You have already proven to not have a clue so not going to bother rehashing what I already said. This I will though since you obviously extrapolated an entire contract out of me saying Wilkerson will probably be in the $12-$13M range. Please explain why Wilkerson would be stupid to sign a deal which would make him the 2nd highest paid 3-4 DE in the league? It would also put him in the top 5 of all DEs.
The reason things didn't work out in Tampa Bay was that the Bucs had too much money on the defensive side of the ball and an unsettled QB situation. That's a 7-9 scenario. Then you throw in the coach who was wearing thin in the locker room and things degenerated into 4-12.
