If I were in a street fight, I'd want Willie in my corner. On my offensive line........not so much.

He hasn't been given as many chances as Sanchez.

when have Colon's comments conveyed loudness or bravado?

I've seen him twice now challenge his teammates.
once regarding lateness, and now regarding the keys to the car.

those messages seem to convey what's expected of those players (by the coaches, veterans, etc).
hopefully the players take an introspective look, and ask themselves how serious they are approaching this.

I would love to see Colon get cut. He plays with a complete lack of discipline, and this shows me that he is a shitty teammate. Judging by the number of false starts he has, I think he has Parkinsons - Seriously, he should get that checked out.

i find it funny how people judge Olineman solely off false starts.

it's the only thing i see criticized about Colon, but people are sure convinced he sucks. lol

"Complete lack of discipline" = false starts (led the NFL), personal fouls, missed assignments, trashing on teammates. Focus on doing your job and leading by example. And leading the league in false starts (7) and being 3rd in total penalties (12) is not something we should be proud of, especially from a guard who is not a dominant player. Each of those penalties put us in a hole. He's lined up next to the fucking ball!

what missed assignments or trashing of teammates?
i don't see that at all..
when he stays onside, he's reliable to be where he is supposed to be. and he's very popular and respected amongst teammates. he's not trashing Geno here.

penalties have been a problem for Colon......always have been.
But he's been a very effective Olineman in this league for a long time, and for reasons i never see mentioned here.

For instance, would it surprise you that he let up only 1 Sack, and 3 QB hits all season? and that's with an indecisive QB..

Then why did the Steelers release him? He's a 32 year old converted tackle with a history of injuries. A journeyman. Quit making him out to be an All Pro.

Penalties matter, and leading the league in that stat is nothing to be minimized. Being a good teammate also matters. Saying your QB has sucked and had better not crash the Porsche he's been given is stupid. You just made yourself a major talking point for the HC, Geno, and everyone else to discuss. Shut your mouth and focus on being better at your current job. When you're retired, you can try all you want to be the next Damien Woody.

Boy is this an illogical post. Colon's penalties mean he is not capable of observing that Smith in fact has sucked? I assume Colon can read the Qb rankings as well as we can.

why did the Steelers release him?
they just drafted Decastro in the 1st round, and releasing Colon freed up cap space from the previously large contract he had earned there.
guys get replaced for younger cheaper options all the time.
He was a versatile lineman in Pitt, playing G and T, and he won a Super Bowl with them.
are you seriously suggesting he sucked at Pitt?

He's been a decent stop gap for us as well, on the cheap, and has managed to stay healthy while playing a role.
There's some ground between totally sucking and All-Pro you know.

you are not looking past anything but age and false starts.
that's my problem with the Colon bashers.
btw, what are those clips supposed to show?

fwiw, he didn't say Geno sucked, or that he didn't want him under center. He didn't take it that far.
I took it as a challenge to Geno.....it's now or never, so take the responsibility seriously.
I've never heard a vet give Geno a glowing endorsement, which suggests to me something may be off about his attitude or work ethic.
it's time he do what's necessary to earn that respect, or it will never happen.
i've got no problem with that, and it's pretty insightful to how the locker room feels.

Colon is a tough guy brings lotsa toughness to the team. He won me over in his first preseason with the team when he went toe-to-toe with Suh.

He's not the best but the Jets ain't paying him like he is.

    I think he's an asset.

In my opinion, Willie Colon is a disposable asset (i.e. his play does not impress me), and I do not believe he is putting the team first when he talks about other players, especially his recent comments about Geno. I do not have the time or the energy to go through your post point by point but I disagree with most of it. You believe differently - That is fine. Carry on.

the penalties are huge thats why. He kills drives. Even the false starts hurt. He can open a huge hole for a 9 yard run on 2nd down but if he jumps offsides on 3rd and 1 it doesn't mean jack shit when it's 3rd and 6. They aren't overblown either. The guy commits too damned many penalties.

But if you are looking for more, he's very unreliable in pass protection too. he's a decent run blocker when he's not committing penalties but he's up and down in the passing game. I think they could do almost as well/possibly just as well blocking wise with a cheap younger player and not have to worry as much about his penalties.

As for his "leadership" fuck they got a Center and a LT on that line that they spent high draft picks on and will invest $22 million in cap room combined on the 2 guys in 2015. they aren't rookies either this will be their 10th NFL season. What the fuck are we paying them for but leadership? They shouldn't fuckin have to have a very pedestrian Willie Colon for his "leadership" yet undisciplined and unreliable play..

I want people holding Geno accountable, it's the only way that he'll grow. I took Colon's comments the same way I took Thomas Jones calling out Sanchez for turning the ball over. Could it have been handled in the team, or could it have come from Mangold instead of Colon? Sure.

But still: let Geno use it as motivation, or fuck off. If he can't handle lineman barking at him, he can either give Fitzpatrick the job, or he can play so well that the lineman praise him instead. Lineman put their body on the line, to protect the QB. They don't respect a guy who isn't valuing that sacrifice, so let Geno play to well he earns their respect and then they'll shut up.

I don't honestly have a problem with it.

The defense is the Porsche, the offense is a pinto and Geno is a moped with one wheel stuck in 1st gear.

    100% agree.

I'm sick of having QBs with fragile psyches. I want a tough QB NY is a tough town!!
