It's easy for us as fans to remember only the bad moments, and forget the big picture of what Geno has accomplished in his development during his first 2 seasons. There's a new feature on NFL.com that analyzes Geno's progress from the time he was at West Virginia to the present, and I think it's a good, well-written analysis:

Thanks for the link. The potential is there, but he needs to be more consistent. Here's to it all coming together in '15!

Geno at his best is good enough to be a very productive NFL QB. Fans havent forgotten his good games. But when the bad ones outnumber em 5 to 1 its pretty hard to defend him.

If what you say is true, nobody would be defending him, and certainly not analysts on NFL.com.

I went back and checked last season's game logs, and the truth is that his good games actually outnumbered his bad ones!

Judging by QBR, which is the bottom line:

    Week 1 - 96.6
    2 - 64.1
    3 - 71.5
    4 - 68.9
    5 - incomplete, benched?
    6 - 70.9
    7 - 88.6
    12 - 97.6
    13 - 35.7
    14 - 87.4
    15 - 88.2
    16 - 83.9
    17 - 158.3

    http://www.nfl.com/player/genosmith/2539335/gamelogs

Obviously, we can only count games he played in (he was benched for part of the year). But looking at the games he played in:

    Great games: 7
    Average games: 2
    Bad games: 4

So, as you can see, based on Quarterback Rating, Geno had more good games than bad games in 2014, and he finished strong, with 4 straight good to great games. Facts.

    QBR?

    Come on

I'll use my eyes over any bias rating system.

    Geno had 4 good games last season (@GB , @NE , @MIN , @MlA..and I really shouldnt even count Week 17 in Miami.

REALLY?!?! There are people on here questioning the Quarterback Rating system, used by coaches and NFL personnel guys. .... REALLY?!?! Now I've seen it all, people really reaching to try to discredit what Geno has accomplished. Discarding the facts to fit your own personal bias.

To paraphrase Paul Simon, "the man sees what he wants to see and disregards the rest."

How did he end up being the 29th rated overall QB at seasons end?

    Hmm something must be wrong...

Exactly, I'd rather watch the games with my own eyes and disregard some meaningless statistic.

BTW, the only statistic that matters in the NFL is wins and losses.

Agreed - stats aren't necessarily a bad thing - they should be used to backup your statement ... OP has failed to deliver once again

That's not QBR that's Passer Rating, they are two different things, although I like Passer Rating a lot better than that stupid fake QBR stat

Statistics don't lie, statistics don't forget games that were played over 6 months ago, statistics don't block out the good plays and accentuate the bad ones. It's a psychological tendency us scarred Jets fans can develop.

It's not without precedent for an NFL QB to look pretty bad over his first couple of seasons and still work out. It's just not the likely result.

Regardless of our differences of opinion on Geno, his previous stats represent the past, with little talent around him and a buffoon for an OC. These pics represent the present, and the future....and those who are saying they trust what they see over statistics will appreciate these images from OTA's I would think. :)
Yeah it's just OTA's, but Geno and Brandon are living together, working together, and developing a nice chemistry.

QBR was created by ESPN. Its not even an official NFL stat. Do they even count QBR on other websites besides ESPN.com? I doubt it.

But since you go for it , Geno was 29th in terms of QBR last season and 29th in passer rating.

Pretty horrible if you go by stats or you go by your eyes.

I don't think any fair unbiased person would say Geno played 7 great games last year. I don't think Geno Smith would even say that, in fact I'd bet money he wouldn't.

I see 1 great game based strictly on qb rating there. So far Geno seems to play his best at the end of the season when the season is over and there's nothing to lose. Not a great sign.
