Whichever is healthiest between ivory and Ridley. Powell is a change of pace back and Stacy isn't really anything.
Ivory is the best pure talent, he has more to offer purely as a RUNNER and power back than any other back has to offer in any other area. Or rather, Powell is a good receiving back but not as good at that as Ivory is at breaking tackles, if that makes sense. nobody has more upside, he's our best and most proven. Stacy and Ridely have had higher statistical piques but none of the consistency.
i don't see Gailey featuring the power run game. call me crazy but i think Powell will have the most impact this season.
The one thing we didn't address this off-season that I really wanted (spiller) was drafting a fast receiving back. I'm happy with the rb depth we have overall though. It's amazing how the fo added competition at every single position. I don't know if I've ever seen that.
Stacey has the most potential and isn't very polished, but ivory is the most proven and deserves the first team reps.
Ivory is a beast, that runs downhill, and beats people up while he's at it...to the tune of a 4.7 career yards per rush avg. Definitely gets in the work, but rotated to keep him healthy. Don't know much about Stacey, but apparently can catch a pass out of the backfield, something that is not a strong point of Ivory's. So he may have a role to go along with Powell, and hopefully a healthy Ridley for a good if not great RB rotation
Ivory. You have a deep threat (Smith)...An outside dominant..(marshall..) a Middle of the road guy..(Decker) and two pass catchers at TE. Ivory should have a career year.
Ridley is probably the best RB but his injuries and ball security issues knock him down a lot. Him at the top of his game is better than the others. But there's a good chance those days are behind him.
Ivory is the best overall. Powell is the most durable. I view Ridley as more of a change of pace back.
I believe Ivory is the best runner and Powell is the best all around back. Of the 4 they have the following career highs for receptions: Ivory: 18 (2014) Ridley: 10 (2013) Stacy: 26 (2013) Powell: 36 (2013) FYI...CJ Spiller had 24 (Rookie), 39, & 43 receptions playing in Chan Gailey's offense.
I voted for Ivory, but I'm a little surprised Ridley hasn't gotten more votes. If he can cure his fumblitis, he might have the most upside of any of these backs. I think he's the only one who has ever rushed for 1000+ yards in a season. On another note, I heard someone on Jets Nation say that there's no way they keep 4 RB's. I was shocked to hear that .... doesn't every team usually carry at least 4 RB's on their final roster?! Why can't we keep all these guys, especially with how often RB's get hurt in the NFL?
This is really my only hope for Stacy. He can catch passes but is a clumsy runner that won't make anyone miss... so even then I would rather have Powell catching passes.
It will be dependent on OLine play which we didn't improve as much as I would have liked. That said, I expect the competition among our guards to be tough, so we should end up with a good run blocking team.
I think Powell is set into a certain role, so I would rule him out because of that. It's between Ivory and Ridley. If Ridley is healthy, he's a better RB than Ivory IMO. Regarding Stacey, he is a wildcard to me....He has flashed some significant skills his rookie year, so I'm curious to see what he does for us. Wouldn't shock me to see them all on the roster, with Bohanan getting the axe. Stacey can do what Bohanan does, just as well if not better and presents more opportunity for use as a pure RB.
I think this is one area where the Jets will be weaker than last season. Jets have no HR threat. I think Chris Johnson got a bad rap. Given the ineptitude of the offense, Johnson's effectiveness suffered. Defenses could feel confident stuffing the box to stop him (and Ivory) because they knew Geno couldn't hurt them. The constant 3 and outs and turnovers meant the Jets were mostly playing from behind last year and you can't feature your running game when you constantly have to play catch up.
I agree. I think the one curveball that happened in the draft was Yeldon coming off the board right before we picked (even though Mac made the right pick with Devin Smith). Gailey has always featured a good hands back with speed. Maybe they get Ivory more involved in the pass game, but out of all of our backs, I think Powell fits best in Gailey's system.
Chris Ivory is so underrated. Consistently finishes better than he is predicted to finish, despite always splitting time with somebody.
