Reports are Wright suffered yet ANOTHER setback. Only a Met could go on the DL for one thing and not be able to come off it cause of another ailment. The dude got old QUICKKKK! At this point the Mets should look into dealing Niese or Gee for any type of bat. There's gotta be a guy in the league that is buried on the bench somewhere that can come here and give us something.
I'm sold that Wright juiced. You don't go from 30 dingers a year to ~15 and get hurt every other week. This guys body is shot!!!!!
It's time for Sandy to make a deal for a bat. He has extra pitchers like Niese whose had two bad starts in a row. But he was pitching well before that and give him a few good starts and when his value is up deal him. He's a lefty which increases his value. Sandy's Las Vegas express has never worked. He sends guys like Campbell down, they hit in AAA but in the majors in the low .200s or lower. Time for another professional bat or no playoffs. You can't win with this lack of production.
Its possible but remember that he played in a pretty stacked lineup when he was knocking out 30+ a year. Reyes, Beltran and Delgado was great protection where he could quietly do his thing He's just never lived up to being "the guy".
Someone would def take on Niese. A lefty with a reasonable contract is attractive. There's gotta be atleast one pitching coach in the league that looks at Niese and says I can turn him into a stud. Its just not gonna happen here. Plus so many teams out there who have a shot to contend need pitching. Everyone in the AL East for example. Sandy needs to sack up.
Regardless if you're in a stacked line up or not, if you're a 30 homer guy you'll be in the vicinity of that.. Not 15 less. Every year this guy gets hurt and reinjures himself tying his shoes. As to your never lived up to being the guy comment, I totally agree. He would be a great #2 guy, just not a #1 bat in the lineup
Dude I've been thought that but I shake those thought out of my head. If we ever learn that to be true that would break my heart a little if I'm being honest. I'm not surprised to hear about Wright not coming back anytime soon. In fact I was kind of expecting it. Since 2012 Jose Reyes has played 412, David Wright has played 410. Harvey has given up 2 Home Runs.
Just me being random but Kevin Plawecki is thought of being a better defensive catcher than d'Arnaud, right? I haven't been too impress with him behind the plate.
This tying to pass off minor leaguers for big league bats has been going on for years now under Sandy. There are good players available who could start on the Mets. And not 20 mil per guys, we know the Wilpons will disallow that. And to me your best trading chip is Niese.
If Syndergaard and Matz arent considered trade chips (I hope they arent) then yes Niese is the best trade chip. Its going to be interesting to see what direction the team goes with that though. Ive heard rumors of trading Syndergaard for top batting prospects around the league but I would hate that. Even if it was for someone like Bogarts in Boston. IMO he has better stuff than Wheeler and deGrom. Just needs to learn his craft a little more and he will be a complete stud. So unless we are getting back a superstar Id leave him be. And there really isnt anyone that fits that mold that could become available. Atleast not at a decent age. Paul Goldschmidt is really the only guy I could think of that would be worth trading the farm for. But thats a pipe dream. Right now we just need a guy or two in here that can be an upgrade. Im surprised, well not really surprised, but I wonder why TC doesnt put Grandy in the 3 hole and just tell him to swing for the fences. Lagares is the only guy with speed in the lineup so kill 2 birds with one stone and try it out. At this point it couldnt hurt.
His numbers went downhill after he participated in the HR Derby during the all star weekend some years back, he changed his swing and went from a very powerful level swing to an uppercut swing. Started missing some very good pitches, always swinging under the pitches. I think he is done, he wil never stay healthy and now the mets are stuck with a contract that nobody will touch if they ever considered moving him.
I'd settle for a guy that could make the throw from short right field to the plate. That rules out Granderson..
I have to agree. Wright might be the face of the franchise, but he can't stay on the field anymore. Since the beaning, he hasn't hit much either. Contract or no, time to move on from DW. The future is now (or after they fire Alderson).
His best days are behind him > This about the long term plan of rebuilding under the Coupons anyway. Gotta wait for the field players to catch up with pitchers stock piled in the system. As a side note: I don't put too much stock in the HR Derby theory, or the beaning. What about everybody else who's been in the Derby? He's gone down since before the beaning too. He was at his best when the team was good, going back to '05 thru '08. Wouldn't surprise me if he did PED's either. Absolutely nobody would surprise me
Pawlecki is actually doing better than Travis did his first time around. But after going to LV Travis had more extra base hits than any NL catcher since June of 2014 (until his injury) and was playing at an almost All Star level. Plawecki's BA is going down and no team can survive with so many non contact hitters and guys who consistently hit into double plays. I'd trade Plawecki (with a pitcher) and put him in a package for a big league bat. Look we could had had low wage players like Dexter Fowler last off season but other than signing Cuddyer and Mayberry, Sandy did nothing. At least with Omar we had a competitive team. The few guys Sandy's given competitive above average contracts to like Grandy have played below the contract. It's not all on the Wilpons. Sandy has done a poor job. It's not hard to rebuild an organization when you always have a high draft pick. The skill is (teams like the Cardinals) winning and rebuilding at the same time.
I don't think Wright is done. And not sure about the steroids theories. It's hard to get away with that stuff now. But the thing is of all the bad signings, (other than Bay) this is one of the worst. In terms of the amount of money a cash strapped team gave to him. The owner actually dissed Wright a year before they re-signed him. But the Mets thought they had to make a move to placate the fans and if they didn't sign and overpay Wright there would have been a fan mutiny. The bottom line is this: no fan mutiny of they didn't re-sign Wright. It's all about winning. If they had used the money smartly to put together a good team the fans would have loved it. Look at attendance for cold weather dates in April when they were winning. You can sell it out if you're competitive. But this current team is proving: it can't hit.
