The commissioner has the discretion to do most anything. He could knock it back to 3 games, and let go of opening night, he could give a nudge, nudge, wink, wink and allow Brady to play until the lawsuit is adjudicated, (then the Pats themselves would pressure Brady to take two games early (if Goodell offers it) rather than potentially screw a season should they be competitive in say..November.) He could place him on the Exempt list, until such time as the process plays out, which only fucks the Pats, but not Brady, because he sits home and gets paid (Peterson initially got that)...So Brady would have no recourse, except looking even worse. Right now, Goodell has him, and by extension the Pats by the short and curlies.
Here's a nice little gem from our friend SteveGrogan i found on patsfan board. He apparently also joined that site right after deflategate. lmao at the ignorance. claiming Br*dy didn't turn his phone over to protect other QB's from implicating themselves......you know because Br*dy must be doing the right thing by refusing to cooperate. could be no other explanation. lol, what a numbnuts but then he goes on an denies anything was wrong to begin with. priceless. if nothing was being done covertly to begin with, why is Br*dy trying to protect other QB's and himself from implications? nothing this guy says should be taken seriously..
I still fail to see why the NFL doesn't just do away with the breaking in of footballs pre-game. Give the officials a chest full, kept under lock and key much the way the Home Plate ump has all the baseballs.
Because it isn't obvious, nor is it likely....The NFL is unlikely to change any rule, that enhances offensive output.... The only part that may change, is controlling the chain of custody once the balls are actually initialed by the officials.... The NFL has long held different balls for kickers, and the rule that allowed visiting teams to prepare their own footballs has been in place since 2006. Secondarily, the NFL wants this whole thing to just go away, and more likely than not...they will not be bringing up a rules change in the off season so this issue rears it's ugly head again. It was Brady that enlisted Manning back in 2006 to get the rule changed. It is highly unlikely that the competition committee is going to willingly put the egg on their own faces. My earlier post was not yet thought thru...and should have centered on the chain of custody....
Sorry, I fell asleep halfway through your post, was there a point where you argued against the NFL controlling the footballs used in a sanctioned game?
Well an NFL exec (sorry forgot name) said in an interview last week they were interviewing QBs and the process will definitely be overhauled. No specifics were discussed.
With Roger residing, and today's news, I doubt there will be any suspension reduction. Watch a replay of ESPN NFL insider from today. I am thinking in addition to getting talked to by the other owners and Goodell, while he flew to california, Kraft finally read the 20000 pages and saw the crazy explanations and said, we can't turn this in and fight....it's a LOSER
They had a sit down movie hour with Rog, Bob and the other 31.....on the screen a new release of " The Burned Tapes" began. Kraft gulped and said......I'm an infamnia
They are ready to change the rule tonight. Balls will be under strict supervision after their official check. no more walk about....much like the kballs

The problem with that, is that Wells was happy to just accept texts between brady and the two named individuals. He was happy with brady handing the phone over to his agent who would then submit a copy of texts between the 3 and no other information from the phone. So grogans pie in the sky bs about protecting other QB's is just that, as Wells would never have seen those texts
